What is the syntax for REWRITE URL?
Does this actually point a page, or is this on-the-fly rewriting? |

It does it on the fly based on your settings (Options->SiteSettings->Performance) and based on the names of products/categories. There is a reported bug that noone replied to it (http://www.bvsoftware.com/Forums/default.aspx?f=81&m=40852) regarding the usage of extra query strings. If you don't do anything tricky you should be alright with it as it is out of the box. |

Ok... I get it now.
So the REWRITE URL box in the product editing is to override the default? |

Yes. I used that for some products and categories. A good example is GoogleAds that does not accept the following url: http://www.bestgames.com.au/Games/M.C._Escher.aspx because of the dots in the filename. I think their regex for testing is bad. So for this category I has to change the rewrite url to: http://www.bestgames.com.au/Games/M_C_Escher.aspxSame applies for products. |
