[3]Shipping test 2 using Fed Ex's Ship Mgr.:[/3]
[3][/3]
[3]Via Fed Ex Ground, NJ to VA[/3]
<o:p>[3] [/3]</o:p>
[3]1 item, 40 lb, 48L x 36W x 5H:[/3]
[3]At Fed Ex Ship Mgr: $13.53[/3]
[3]At BV5 checkout: $15.12<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> = $1.59 overcharge [/3]
<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">[3] [/3]
[3]1 item, 40 lb, 20L x 20W x 12H:[/3]
[3]At Fed Ex Ship Mgr: $12.41[/3]
[3]At BV5 checkout: $14.69 = $2.22 overcharge[/3]
<o:p>[3] [/3]</o:p>
[3]1 item, 30 lb, 50L x 37W x 8H: (Fed Ex Oversize)[/3]
[3]At Fed Ex Ship Mgr: $63.71[/3]
[3]At BV5 checkout: $23.12 = $40.59 undercharge[/3]
[3][/3]
[3]These test were each run twice, second time after a full reset. You've got to look at how the products' weight and size are being exported to Fed Ex, probably others too. Overcharging shipping can kill a sale, and a nearly 200% undercharge on a large single item shipment is a serious problem.[/3] |

Well, it took a while to get to the bottom of this, but it turns out that BV rounds the package sizes to compute volume, rather than girth. This allows the software to run up an approximation of a box size if you're stuffing many small items into a package...
This isn't what Fed Ex and UPS use to calculate shipping costs, but now I understand that this isn't a bug. It can make for some poorly calculated shipping fees under the right circumstances.
I'm glad BV5 is versatile enough to offer a work-around or two.
Thanks, Andy. |
