I purchased BV on the recommendation of my existing host, but found when I went to install that they (my host) would require dedicated hosting. Can this software not be used on shared hosting? My host is one of the "partners".

It tends to depend on what type of traffic you're dealing with in addition to other applications running along side the app. BV runs fine and plays nice in a shared hosting environment however it does get to a point to where a sites performance (be it in traffic/bandwidth usage, necessary additional application usage, memory consumption) that it may require a dedi. Is it fair to other clients if one website begins to affect the other sites on the same server in a negative fashion (i.e hogging all the bandwidth)?
I have clients on dedi's and shared environments running BV and the plans that they're on are a reflection of the sites performance, activity and/or additional applications that shouldn't be or just isn't smart to be used in a shared hosting environment. |

Either of the host shown at the top of the forums can set you up shared. |

I use it on a shared host (not with the "partners") so it does work.
