How do the affiliates work? I just went through my own sign up process and in the end it gives you an id but doesn't tell how an affiliate can link to your store.

Hello,

If you create an affiliate and then edit the affiliate just created, you will notice that the URL filed will update to reflect the information previously entered. For an affiliate to properly link to your site, reference the structure of the sample link to create the actual link on your affiliates page.

For example, if you run http://www.icecream.com and a partner from http://www.sprinkles.com was setup as an affiliate(Assigned affiliate ID 12345), you would place the following link on http://www.sprinkles.com website:

http://www.icecream.com/default.aspx?affid=12345

When visitors viewing sprinkles.com followed this link, they would be directed to icecream.com. A cookie would be placed on their computer, and any purchases would be linked to the affiliate ID 12345.

If you are going to make heavy use of affiliates, I'd suggest signing up with a third party vendor to administer this for you. Automatic reporting to both parties, product black-outs, commission percentages, etc., are all taken care of for you.

Also, make sure you can authorize each affiliate before there is a referral/purchase/commission triggered. I had a person add my site to their site as an affiliate link, use the link to make a large purchase, take down the link and then demand that his commission be deducted from the purchase price. That takes ba!!z.

I use the affiliates feature to track my internet advertising. A couple things you probably are aware of.

If you test the affiliates link to your store, make sure you erase your cache or every purchase you enter from that computer will be credited to that affiliate.

Second, the hits reported on your affiliates report section is not working. They are being saved in the data base but not displayed on the report. This is being addressed in SP2.

There is a link in this forum to a file that you can replace to get the admin report working...

Also, why is Drivers license number a required field? If you have their tax id number then you should be able to issue them a 1099 at the end of the year.
