Making the default shared choice the same as the parent product

I have a product that is available in two formats: CD (Sku="1234") and Cassette(Sku="5678"). The address only points to the CD since we primarily sell CDs. ( www.address.com/Product/1234.aspx or www.address.com/Product/ProductName_1234.aspx). [The dual address is a nice feature - I can keep the product name in for search engine optimization and have the shortcut with just sku number for external links.] My problem: I would like for the buyer to select either the CD(default) or the cassette (if available) when going to this page, while preserving the correct sku for the CD. When I try to add the products as shared choices radio buttons, adding the cassette is not a problem, but BV will not allow me to use the correct Sku for the CD since it is the same as the page that is referenced (based on the CD's Sku). Any suggestions on how I get this to work?

I'm not sure if this will help or not.
Our product is Power Skating Clinics. We use one SKU number for each clinic. Most of our Clinics are separated into 2 groups, A and B. We use a drop down list instead of the radio buttons for group choices. One of the choices is "Select a group" which we have set to null. The others are "A" and "B". If you leave the leave the null choice out, it defaults to the first one in the list. You can also select which choice you want to set as default.
The SKU number appears on the product page and pretty much anywhere else you put it. However when the customer places the order, BV attaches an "a" or a "b" to the end of the SKU number and you can track inventory on them separately.

Thanks, but the A at the end is what is getting me into trouble. Is there any way to have it be the same as the SKU without the suffix attached? Since the CD and Cassette SKUs are completely different, there is no need for the suffix.

Hey David.
You should be able to modify the SKU's without any issues on the "edit choice" page. However, SKU’s must be unique. |
