Not a home run yet... I've still got lots of tweaking to do (does it ever stop?) so I'm pushing it a bit. I just had to get out from under my SF6 site....

Home page work continues. The categories are just in a table (it works) and the text is mostly for SEO... can anyone suggest a better way to show categories? They don't change much, so dynamic updating isn't needed.

Keep in mind, my target audience has very conservative tastes in home decor. I embrace the KISS approach - two clicks to a page with an "Add to Cart" button, no flashy stuff. Most of my shoppers have carefully considered what they want and go looking for it.

Thanks.

Mitch,

I like it -- simple, yet professional looking, I think meets your target audience very well. A couple of notes:

1. As a shopper, I don't like the BV5 Product layout, it forces you to go back to the category or Home page to see the list of Categories, unless you were to have a menu/categories at the top of every page.

2. Some of the images on the catalog pages don't quite line up with the text - it's very subtle, and I probably only notice it because I think I have the same issue and not quite sure how to fix it.

3. I'm sure you are aware but the Checkout page is not secure at this point. While I haven't gotten that far on my site yet, I'm assuming that page is supposed to be secure.

Site speed is great -- far better than any SF6 site I've seen.

Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s)
Mitch,

My initial reactions (I will take a closer look in a few days):

1. Thank you for making the font big enough that I can read it without my reading glasses.
2. The entire interface is amazingly consistent and clear: all the shadows go the same way, plenty of white space and a good use of grid layout so my eyes can scan quickly, good color choices so the contrasts is enough without being glaring.
3. Searched for "door" and found a missing image (MAS742S).
4. I would prefer that the Add to Cart button be higher on the page so that I con't have to scroll to the bottom to find it. I personally like to be able to see the product name at the same time that I press Add to Cart to that I am *sure* that I am adding the correct product. On some products (i.e. MAS509) the options are separated from the Add button by a "page" which can be confusing (it would make me uncomfortable if that makes sense).

Andy found a good point... I had made a few product clones (MAS742S) and priced them at $1.05 for credit card testing. I had removed them from the categories, but left them "active". Andy found one of them - via search. My bad for not thinking to uncheck the active box.

I would suggest an SP3 change so that if a product isn't assigned to a category, it should stay invisible to visitors (a'la search).

Andy, I have 'puter glasses, font size is important. The list of options is long for some products... yup, a lot of scrolling to see the final price. The tan 'page' is the same on all products. Once it's been read, the visitor will glance past it... I would like to get the product name down at the price area and "add" button though. I'm not fond of a white background, but given that clear can't happen in a .jpg.... I dunno. My SF6 site had a tan-ish background. I got sick of it. Shadows - Thanks for noticing!!!! You'll also note that the images/backgrounds within categories match within that catgeory.

Joe, my shoppers rarely buy more than one item. They know what they came for and don't do a lot of poking around. I'll never have a category menu on a product page, I like to keep their focus on one thing. Amazon's product pages are examples of what I don't want to come even close to. If someone needs to get back to shopping, they're only one click away from a page that has the cat menu.

Images and text a bit 'off' on the cat pages - a few of the images are an 'odd' size... #74 on my list of 325. The product title above the main image is slid to the left. I hate that, but it's that way to allow room for choices text. I don't use that feature so aligning the text is possible later (css).

This ain't SF6, is it Joe?

Thanks.

I love it. Especially your choice of colors. And I think the white background is appropriate. It make it easier to read. I find most the fancy wallpapers with with flowers, watermarks, textures, guns going off etc a bit old fashioned and should be put in the same place you put your avocado refrigerator.

The only suggestions I have is break your credibility description at the bottom of your home page into 2 or 3 paragraphs.

Take a look at .recordimage and .recordimage img in your stylesheet. There are some background image and margin rules in there, respectively, that were accidentally carried over from another theme. Taking care of those will probably fix your image alignment issues in those category pages.

Bob, the text is just there for Google. Humans don't read anymore!!! ;)

.recordimage {margin:0 auto 0 auto;width:120px;height:120px;background-image:url('../images/ImgBgSm.png');background-repeat:no-repeat;}
.recordimage img {margin:3px 0 0 5px;}

Yea, there it is, something else to fiddle with... tonight maybe...

Thanks, Cliff

You'd probably be safe with something as simple as this:
Code:
.recordimage { min-height:110px; text-align: center; padding: 5px; }

And just delete .recordimage img {margin:3px 0 0 5px;} completely.

You could also take advantage of your extra space on that page by modifying the margin on #categorygridtemplaterecords .record to margin:5px auto; and the width on #categorymain to something like width: 680px; if you'd like to spread the products and fill out the page out a bit.

One issue I've just noticed is that your #footer isn't formatted properly. You might try removing the .maincontentwrapper DIV from around your Footer and giving #footer maybe 10px of padding and nix the width.

Yea, the wasted space on the cat pages is something I've been mulling. The column on the right on Product pages will get "Other things you might like". The footer... I'll have a run at that...

The .recordimage line works great.

Thanks once again.
