Hey Gang,

Has anyone had success using MS Access as a project file to work with the online database?

This may be a situation with my host, but I connect fast enough and bring up a list of the tables very quickly.
Once I select a table to pull up the datasheet, it just crawls.
The sheet will finally appear and Access will lockup, in the sense if I try to move a scrollbar, it'll nudge on it's won after about 2 minutes of lockup.

anyone else experiencing this problem with Access 2007?
Should I touch base with the host (Applied) and see if it's a hosting issue?

Thanks
-Dave

Access isn't designed for web sites as it doesn't have the robust interface to handle multiple people accessing the database at the same time. BVC5 needs SQL2005 and the free version works just fine. If you are attempting to use Access for another project, I still don't recommend it.

Hi Chris,

I'm just using access to view the tables, and spit out reports (not run the site).
It let's me make database changes locally using it's interface which is very intuitive.
So if I want to use the same banner image for a ton of sub categories, I can do a fast copy and paste using the Access interface.

So I'm really just using it as a project file to view the table data and change data.
The real database is SQL server on the host.

I use Access 2007 to work with/edit some remote SQL Server databases (not at AI) and have not noticed any change in response time versus Access 2003. It's not fast, but it does not crawl either. I would ask AI if they are aware of anything.

What I've noticed is that Access 2007 itself (even just starting up) is substantially slower than Access 2003.

So I'd be suspicious that it's more your local computer's performance & resources causing the slow down running Access 2007 than the remote SQL Server response times.

Have you tried using another client to access SQL, such as SQL Server Management Studio (free download) or Visual Studio 2005? If response times are quicker with them, then you've isolated the slowness to Access 2007.
