I'm trying to determine how best to set this software up.

I've put the chat tag in system column 1 (above the category list). The monitor tag I assume is best placed in the footer or does it really matter? What have all of you done?

Thanks

I put it in the footer.

One thing we noticed, is that I highly recommend that if you put it in the footer, make sure you check whether or not the current page "RequireSSL". and if it does, you include the "https" on the pages that do and leave only "http" on the pages that don't. Otherwise, depending on the browser and browser settings, users may continually get, "This page contains both secure and non-secure content" notices.

Caplink can you elaborate on that a bit? We're going to have chat available on all pages, so how do I include the https?

Sightmax probalby works the same -- I use the Xigla Live Help and I found that if you use a relative search term for both the help button and the tracking code, you do'nt have a problem with the secure/unsecure message. Remember, depending on your checkout page, that doesn't use Column 1 -- so you will need to add your button/code to the checkout page directly as well -- or use the footer, though I find that poeple don't use the chat if it's stuck way down at the bottom.

Thanks Joe, I'm interested in hearing how everyone else does it.

How do I properly reference the chat if I want to use the full url?

I find Sightmax to be a little less than intuitive. That doesn't mean we don't like it, it's just a bit to get used to right now. We may try Xigla before making a purchase decision.

Does this pretty much replace the need for tracking like Google Analytics?

Sightmax and as far as I know Xigla does not handle purchase tracking at all. It basically allows you to monitor users while they are in your site and chat with them.

Joe is right. If your chat software is on the same server and installed into the same iis site so that is it able to be referenced via a relative url path (such as "/SightMaxInterface....") then you do not need to worry about the secure/non-secure issue.

If you are using a full url, you would need to do something like this:

1. Cast the page object to tpye BaseStorePage
2. Check if the current page requires ssl and that ssl is enabled
3. Write out the proper url based on the previous checks.

I am probably going to run with it as a hosted solution for the first 30 days. I would rather kick the tires under pressure than buy something and feel stuck with it. I'm on a trial now of Sightmax which so far we all like.
