Since this is my first update -- what is the best way to deploy the update? is there a list of changed files and I can simply upload those? -- I need to figure out if any of them I have customized and need to compare/rework. |

Joe, backup the db, backup your entire site/virtual folder ....absolutely everything if you have access.
Take the store offline, run the update. It takes 30 seconds, reopen the store.
Keep the files handy, any changes you note in the behavior of the store run a program like beyond compare to move the changes from old to new.

C, your instructions, and the ones that come with SP3 don't explain how to install SP3 on a shared server where you don't have access to run the EXE. I made the request of Marcus when SP2 was released that they provide manual instructions. That didn't happen this time either. I and others would appreciate it if BV would provide those of us on shared servers with these critical instructions. Thanks.

I think you'll need to have your host do the work for you. I have RDC access to my server, but I think this is where having someone like Noah in your corner is key.

C, I've installed numerous commercial ASP.NET applications that are designed to run on shared servers. You run a SQL script through SQL Management Studio, upload the files, set a connection string in Web.config and maybe set file permissions on some folders. It's not rocket science that's the beauty of .NET deployment.
There has to be a way to install this manually. There is some order for running the SQL script updates and then it's just a matter uploading the files and maybe making a few config file weaks. That's all that the EXE is doing, it's basically just a big batch file running SQL scripts and doing XCopy. All we need is the installation order.

I've got a dedicated server with Applied Innovations and the'yre one of the best and I'm sure they can run it for me -- tha'ts not the issue -- the issue is overwriting files that I have customized. |

You'll have to merge the changes into the customized files manually. |

Merge the files in manually, run the SQL script manually...that's going to be the only option for some.
