***** THIS WAS REPLACED BY SP3-J **********

The sorting for the search stored proc was not taking relevance into account. This has been fixed. Also, some of you have questioned why we have changed the searching at this point in the software. Well, the reason is that some customers with larger stores have had issues with the searching. We needed to have a more flexible search stored proc in order to do this. We also had complaints that the searching was no longer paged (which led to some performance issues as well), we have hopefully addressed these issues.

In order to run this file you will need to run SQL Server Management Studio and open the file, then select the database you want to patch from the "Available Databases" drop down list. You can hit F5 to run the patch or click "Execute" on the menu.

Better, but we're getting repeated products in the same search. I'd use the same example as earlier with the wine opener at www.promomanagers.com

search for leeds vineyard wine opener - good results now
search for wine opener - pretty good

But at times we seem to be adding records. search leeds wine opener and we get the same product listed 3 times.

Also, usually the search will allow users to click NEXT or to page two even if there is no page two. Once there they are in the dead zone. The search no longer works and returns zero no matter what is entered.

I have updated the stored proc in this service pack. It had only been downloaded once, so you are the only person to use it thus far. Please download it again and see if it fixes your issue.

That seems to handle the multiple products issue. Was that also correcting the extra pages?

I'm curious if we can customize this ourselves to return "leeds wine opener" to return items that have leeds+wine+opener in the results first. It still returns products with just "opener" first.

I downloaded it and applied it almost an hour ago! So I'll download it again tonight. :)

Thank you for coming out with the hot fixes so quickly!

It should be returning any results with all search terms first. Are you still not seeing this behavior?

Oh, I believe I see what you are talking about. You want it to split it up and then return items with more than one search term higher in the list. We will look into this to see if it is possible with the current setup that we have. Thanks for the feedback.

Justin I'm not really sure about the terminology but that sounds about right.

On the site search for leeds opener. The first one that is returned isn't even from Leeds which is weird. I just checked the product itself, nowhere is the word leeds occuring which is why we can't figure out why that's the first one on the list?
There are leeds openers though, yes they are returned, but behind terms with less relevance.

I'm sure this will help everyone refine their searches and we appreciate the quick responses. It's useful now, but I think we're a step away from a very, very efficient search.

Updated, with just product name and sku as search fields it's still not putting the most relevant terms first. We figured you would want to know only SKU and Product Name are being searched. When long description and keywords were enabled the results were the same.

I'm not seeing an error message when no results are returned. I'm also not seeing anything in the Reports/Keyword Searches.
