Early version 5.x themes compatible with 5.3?

My BV5 update project has been on hold for over a year. I started up a development store with with one of the very first versions of BV5 and developed my theme at that time.
Today, I downloaded 5.3 full install and installed it. I dropped my theme folder from the previous store into the new store, and the themes seem to work fine. Is there any reason why I should not use the old themes with the new store?
