Just wanted to make people aware that Mastercard are launching a new debit card in August in the UK.



I received the notification below from our payment provider (Worldpay). Not sure if anything needs to be done to support this card from within BVC or not... hopefully not!







SERVICE NOTIFICATION - MasterCard's New Debit Card

WorldPay Payment Service


Dear Customer,

Further to our previous email on this subject, this is to let
you know that MasterCard's new debit card, 'Debit MasterCard'
will be accepted by the WorldPay payment service from

* THURSDAY 31st JULY 2008 *


DEBIT MASTERCARD
Debit MasterCard is new in the UK (it is already in use in other
countries). Any merchant that can accept MasterCard credit
cards can accept Debit MasterCard, but the payment will be
processed as a credit card payment unless the merchants is
enabled for Debit MasterCard by their acquirer.

Cardholders will use Debit MasterCard in the same way as
MasterCard or Visa cards. It supports additional services such
as purchase with cash back, online payments, mail or telephone
payments. As with Maestro, MasterCard's cardholder
authentication technology (PIN / password entry) MasterCard
SecureCode, will be applied to all Debit MasterCard payments we
process, providing increased security for cardholders and
merchants (if your account is not already set up to support
authentication we will be in touch in the near future about
enabling it).

Debit MasterCard will be processed and priced in the same way
as Visa Debit cards.


DEBIT MASTERCARD LOGO
There is no unique logo for this new card - the standard
MasterCard logo you already display is the right one. Some
merchants may prefer to distinguish the MasterCard payment
methods they accepted by displaying several logos each with a
unique label - 'credit' and 'debit.


WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
If, like most WorldPay merchants, you redirect your customers
to our payment page and your website displays the logos of
the cards you accept using the script we provide, you need
take no action. Our service will accept the new debit card
automatically. Your shoppers simply choose MasterCard and our
system recognises the type of card by the card number they
enter.



If you use your own payment pages rather than ours, or you
display card logos / payment methods on your site by loading
your own images, consider if you want to include Debit
MasterCard as an explicit option on your site and make any
changes necessary if you do.



If you use the Payment Notifications service (callback) to
receive and operate on payment data we send to your system,
consider if you need any particular processing for this
new card type (cardType=Debit MasterCard).


WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
We will be in contact during July to let you know the date on
which we will enable support for the new card and to provide
any further details you will need to support its acceptance.
Card issuers will start to issue the new cards in August.
