We are trying to install the bv software on godaddy and at first i received an error message stating.

Exception Details: System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Required permissions cannot be acquired.
after searching through Google and speaking with godaddy support I foung that i needed to add

<trust level="full" originUrl=".*"/> to the web.config

so i did that.. now i get

Parser Error Message: This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the site administrator has locked access to this section using <location allowOverride="false"> from an inherited configuration file.

After some more googling i found that in order to change the location allowOverride="false" I would need to pay for a dedicated server from godaddy to be able to control more of the iis settings.

Is there a way to get the BV software to work with godaddy's web hosting package?

Hmm... i dont know if anyone else on here has or uses godaddy for hosting a bv store. Goodaddy's servers may not be set up to run BV OOTB. If you look at http://www.bvsoftware.com/Partners/, there is a list of partners for bvsoftware that provide hosting. They all should work OOTB.

I personally use Resposio for all of my hosting (the second from the top of the list). Noah is great and has provided wonderful support and customer service. Their shared and dedi servers work great.

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: Some of the components in BVC5 require permissions that are denied by the standard Medium_Trust configuration. AFAIK, GoDaddy uses the standard Medium_Trust configuration for all of their shared web hosting packages. Therefore, you cannot use BVC5 with a GoDaddy shared web hosting package.

The only way to make it work would be to a) modify BVC5 so that it does not require the denied permissions, or b) modify the trust configuration to grant the permissions that BVC5 requires.

Either way, you would proceed as follows:

1. Load a page in BVC5.

2. Examine the stack trace in the error to identify the failing component and the missing permission.

3. Either a) change or remove the component, or b) modify the trust configuration to grant the missing permission.

4. Repeat until BVC5 loads.

A long time ago, I did this for BVC5 5.0 (the original, before any service packs) and came up with a modified trust configuration. You are welcome to use that as a starting point,

Jono, getting a store looking good and running really well is tough enough. Unless you have a really good reason to go to GoDaddy, host with Resposio and get on with it. I've had to make a few panic phone calls to Brendon and Noah. No kidding, they know their stuff.

Applied Innovations is also a hands-down great partner for BV5 -- their tech guys know their stuff and can get you up and running any time day or night.

I vote Resposio. They do everything from setting up a test site to doing all my updates. All I have to worry about is the stuff I break.
