Calculate Discount on Price Cost Minus Your Price

I am almost done with my store, but I desperately need help with one final piece.
I have a price group defined as receiving a 10% above cost "your price." I created a user, added the user to this price group and placed an order for a product that has the following:
Price: $100 Cost: $90 Your Price: $99
So for this order, I would want to calculate the total "discount" given based on the difference between the "Cost" and the "Your Price" amounts above. Off course, this is a simple example as there could have been multiple products in my order and I would want the total discount for all products in the order to be displayed in a report or in the order manager.
Your help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. If this is something more involved, I am willing to compensate you for your time.

So, you want to see the "$9.00" to show somewhere as a discount, correct? Where to you need to see this discount figure? I can tell you that [[Order.OrderDiscounts]] doesn't show price group discounts on emails or paper - I haven't found a tag that does. |

Thanks for the reply Mitch.
Yes, I would want it to show somewhere/anywhere on the order itself in the admin and the total discount amount if there were multiple products within the order.

Me too. If you get someone to do this let me (us) know. Some of us have been asking for more complete invoicing for years.
As is, I have to guess what the product's price with modifiers would have totaled at full retail, as a sale to a price group member only shows their discounted price. |

I am looking into having someone custom code this for me. I hope the cost is reasonable.

Depending on where you are looking for this to happen we have added it to content column product grids and category product grid. Either option is fairly inexpensive. Send us an email and we can add it in for your site very easy. Its is pretty much drag and drop. The mod displays, list price, site price and the savings to the customer. [email protected] |

This functionality is for the admin/backend, not the customer/shopper front-end. We also need to store the discount based on the price group the shopper is/was in at the time the order was placed. This way, we can run a purchase report some time in the future (even in the current price of the product changes or the customer's price group changes) to view their discounts for previously placed orders. MitchA, would you be interested in sharing the cost of this development?

I need it so my price groupers (all resellers) can see the retail price on their paperwork, see below. I've gotten calls about this and it isn't a small thing. The cost changes based on the modifiers must be included. This isn't the case now, so a retailer placing an order for a $100.00 item only sees $70.00 on his invoice. For my client to see that the product sells for $100.00 requires a trip to the internet to look at my product page instead of (quite simply) a line on his invoice. Seeing the $30.00 discount somewhere would be worthwhile. If this function is available OOTB, I've been missing it. I'll help with something that adds each of our concerns, yes. But, adding a new [[Tag]] for emails is apparently, pretty tough. MitchA attached the following image(s): Invoice 1.jpg (12kb) downloaded 43 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Our requirement is similar in that we need to know how much commission to pay our resellers and to view this info on paperwork as well. This is not available OOTB.
Our criteria on where this info is visible is:
1. At the line item level for an order 2. The total discount (based on the price group) at the order level 3. Printed invoice (similar to your screen shot)
As I mentioned, this discount will be saved to a new table in the database so we can report on it even if the product changes in terms of cost, our price or the customer's discount group.
We are also going to have the ability to pull a custom report to see the discount totals for a given customer.
Let me know your thoughts as I will be working with a third party to accomplish this. I am thinking that we could both benefit by sharing the development cost? Not sure what that is at this point, but hopefully not too bad and it should be ready in a week or so.

Dumaloo, the above sounds good, but don't stop half-way.
It'd be great if any other discounts would show too. Volume discounts, monthly/seasonal special sales... If more than one discount device is used, which one produced how much of a discount.... Gotta figure out if a volume discount is going to show up as a 'real' discount or not because the price (as VD is currently configured) is hard-coded, not calculated.
When I use my member card at the grocery store, I see the order gross total, the discounted order total, the amount of the reduction, the amount saved since the beginning of the year, the amount of the price discount per item purchased....
There is so much that is known, but not shared, even with the admin. let alone the shopper.
I'm going to guess that this is going to be a BIG JOB if you throw into the mix that kitting can produce it's own discounted price scheme on many SKUs per order item. Don't finalize anything without testing with a final version of kitting. |
