We're running BV Commerce 5 SP3.2, and we have tax set to charge tax on all orders shipped to the state of Virginia. Unfortunately, only SOME of the orders shipped to Virginia are being charged tax. I've looked for patterns, such as if an order contains certain items, etc., and there are no patterns. Can someone help? |

You closely inspect the products (admin setup) for the orders with proper tax? Also you might clear your error log and then watch for errors around the same time you get an order without proper tax. |

Kim,
I did check each of the products, but will clear the error log and monitor that. Thank you for the ideas. |

OK, still having tax issues and thinking that there's a major bug somewhere in this software. Tax is not calculating on the order when the order is placed. When we review the order in the Order manager, there's no tax shown. When I click edit order, the tax suddenly appears on the order and the order total changes.
Obviously we can't charge customers more than the amount on their email confirmation... Help? |

Rick,
Service pack 5.6 is the latest and may contain updates to help resolve this issue. The only other thing that comes to mind as a possible cause would be a misconfiguration of the calculate workflow where it would be missing the Calculate Tax step.

Service pack 5.6 may contain updates to help resolve the issue? Have you encountered this issue before? We haven't changed anything in the Workflows, and I verified that the Calculate Tax step is included in the Workflow. |

marcus, when sales tax is calculated. is it checking the shipping address or billing address? or both?
may be a stupid question, but i wouldn't put passed anybody to try and sneak around sales tax by using out of state billing addresses and if the customer is billing to MD but shipping to VA and the system is using the billing address as the tax identifier... would that eliminate sales tax being calculated? |

Shipping address is used to calculate taxes. The destination of the item is what is required for correct tax calculation.
Rick, yes, I have seen an issue with taxes not calculated correctly on early versions of BV 5. I don't remember if it was SP3 or earlier but upgrading to the latest service pack is the first recommendation whenever you encounter a bug.
We now have a bug tracking database for maintenance plan members that tracks which versions fixed which bugs. Unfortunately, it does not have history back to SP3.
