Has anyone come up with a creative solution for Ontario's unique tax system?

It applies an 8% additional tax on product and shipping together for non-books, but only applies to shipping only for books, not to the books themselves.

Currently we cannot figure out a way in BV for only shipping to taxed at 8% without also being applied to the books.

here's a thought using Andy Miller's BV Commerce Shipping Rate Rule Provider

Attached is visual.

Assumptions are:

1. You have Product Type "Book"

2. You apply tax on shipping to "Canada", I'm using CountryName, you can assign a city of "Ontario"

3. Rates from, is "N/A" because I don't know your shipper

4. The tax on shipping doesn't have to be displayed as a seperate line item, it's integrated into the rate returned

Couldn't you use Tax Classes? For example, you would setup a 'Book' tax class and assign it to your book products and another tax class for all of your other products. Then you would create a Tax for Ontario (for each Tax Class) that followed the taxing rules you defined in your email.

We are using tax classes with classes called "book" and "non-book". If can set a tax for 8% on non-books in Ontario and there is a checkbox for "Apply to shipping", but nothing to JUST apply to shipping.

I'll look into what Andy Miller's plug-in can do. Thanks for the suggestion.

What if you mark the book products as 'Tax Exempt' and set the "book" tax class at 8% and to tax shipping? I'm not sure how the code is written, but that might work.
