Shipping Rate Provider Suite 2.5 is now available for production use. Using just two providers called Order Rules and Package Rules, you can implement virtually any custom cost calculation without custom programming. Using extremely powerful rules you can implement all of following calculations:

* If the items in the order fit into a USPS Flat Rate Box and if the rate from USPS Priority Mail is less than $8.10, then use USPS Priority Mail, otherwise use the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate.

* If the product weighs more than 70 pounds use a fixed rate, otherwise use UPS Ground.

* If the delivery distance is less than 10 miles, then offer "Customer Pickup" for no charge.

* If the customer's company name is Starbucks then offer a fixed rate.

* If the order day is Thursday or Friday, then offer Saturday delivery.

* ...and thousands more...

Please see the Samples page for an idea of what is possible.

The combination of BVC5 and Shipping Rate Provider Suite is the most flexible e-commerce shipping cost solution in the industry.

Andy:

I'm curious if this will work for me.

We build roll bars and roll cages that we ship across country. They either go residential or business. We generally charge $100.00 to business and $120.00 to residential. How would i go about setting something like that up. Would i need to put a "product variation" for the customer to choose residential or business. Or is there a way for them to choose that at check out, and then it would select the correct shipping method?

With our current shopping cart (SF6) i ended up just adding an option to each product for the customer to select. The main problem with that was when we put the item on sale. I would have to manually go to each product and alter the shipping cost at it would also be discounted at checkout.

I'm looking at BV for our new shopping cart and hope this will do what we need?

Thanks

Hello Dan,

There is more than one way to solve this:

1. You can set a fixed shipping cost of $120 and add a "Commercial" modifier which subtracts $20. Sales (Offers in BVC5) do not affect shipping. The customer would choose the "Commerical" modifier when they add to the cart.

2. You can set up 2 shipping methods called "Residential" and "Commercial". Each would have a fixed rate. The customer would choose the shipping method during checkout.

Neither option would need my Shipping Rate Provider Suite unless you needed to incorporate one of these with other products/shipping methods. For example, if you normally use UPS live rates for most products and only need these fixed rates for the roll cages, then you can use my Shipping Rate Provider Suite to apply one of the options above to roll cages and use UPS for everything else.

We do use UPS for everything else. We only use the truck freight for the roll bars and cages.

At times a customer places an order with both UPS and truck Freight items. So we would need the ability to do both on the same order.

So it sounds liek your Shipping Rate Provider Suite would allow us to do that.

Thanks
