One of the biggest drawbacks of operating a Web store is when you have to maintain your product catalogue and stock control on both your Web store and your accounting system. In addition, re-keying the online orders from your Web store into your accounting system can be very time-consuming and prone to errors.

Discover IT has now launched a versatile Web store application that integrates directly, in real-time with a back-end Sage 50 accounting system.

This software allows you to administer and maintain your product catalogue and stock control exclusively on your Sage 50 accounts system. The Web store accesses the latest and up-to-date product prices and saleable stock availability directly from Sage, and the orders from your Web store are automatically entered into your Sage 50 system. This all happens in real-time, 24 x 7.

As the front-end Web store and the back-end Sage 50 accounts system are very likely to be in different geographic locations, the Sage 50 integration is implemented using a set of Web Services.

Discover IT uses BVCommerce 5 to develop web stores integrated with Sage 50 Accounts. However, the Sage 50 integration Web Services are also packaged as a Software Development Kit (SDK) available to third party developers. The services can be installed on third party equipment and the SDK comes complete with comprehensive documentation and sample code.

We are running the BVCommerce 5 version. All our products are currently in an SQL 2005 database. We have been looking at a Quickbooks integration with BV Commerce 5 or a Microsoft Dynamics integration. We need to be able to EDI our orders to our manufacturers or vendors. I know this can be done with a custom install of Dynamics which runs on SQL. Quickbooks is much cheaper but I believe it may have limitations. not sure if it can do more then just pull down orders into the accounting system. With Sage, does it still run or is it compatible with SQL. Meaning we wouldn't want to relocate our products into SAGE. I guess the question is why would we want to?

Is this SAGE system all ready to go with BV Commerce 5? We want something we are not going to have to pay $50K to integrate with such as Dynamics since there is no connector. Also if we want to create a sourcing engine can this be done? Sourcing engine is the code that determines (based on rules) where to source the products from via EDI. I have seen some high priced modules for this for Dynamics.

Our system is designed to integrate a BVCommerce 5 web store in real-time with a back-end Sage 50 accounting system using a set of web services. The web store and the Sage accounting system can and normally would be in separate geographic locations. Although not required, the Sage system would normally be used as the primary repository for the customer records, product catalog and, of course, the orders. All this is explained in our web site at www.ecommercewithsage.co.uk.

We have not implemented functionality for selecting suppliers based on a set of rules or for submitting orders directly to those suppliers. This is certainly something that we could do but clearly there would be an expense associated with building that solution.
