People are getting redirected to the homepage

Hi, my client is freaking out because for the past few weeks it seems like several shoppers are having their shopping carts emptied and are being redirected to the homepage when they try to check out.
I have been unable to duplicate the error but several customers have called and complained about this... Basically they add products to cart, click on "checkout", only to have their cart emptied and be redirected back to the homepage.
I know it sounds like a really weird error, but I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this or have any tips for troubleshooting it? The only thing I can think of is some kind of issue with the sessions...

We heard this from one customer as well and thought it was user error. The cart still showed contents. Come to think of it over the last week or so we've had a lot of people go from the cart page back to the home page once or twice and then leave?

Post the URL, we'll give it a try or two.

Make sure the customers have cookies enabled, or they may need to change settings on the firewall -- it sounds like they are having trouble going to the secure side.
Also you may want to try unchecking to move viewstate to the bottom of the page in Options -- I had this problem and if customers clicked on a button on the cart page too soon, it would error and direct them to the Home page -- you can tell in your Event Log |

Birdsafe,
Thanks for the advice with the Viewstate on the bottom of the page! I'm going to give that a try. I'm pretty sure these customers had cookies enabled, they wouldn't have been able to add products to their cart in the first place if they didn't have cookies enabled right?
You said I should be able to tell in the Event Log, but what kind of error would I be looking for?

Won't moving the viewstate hurt SEO?

ggmike - look for "Unable to validate data" -- something to that effect, happening from the Cart Page
C -- it hasn't hurt mine, I have more links showing up in Google and my page ranks for keywords have remained the same or improved. |

Joe after thinking about it the sale lost is worth more than the rank anyway.
From what I've read google will cache the first 100kb of a page. The key I guess is to reducing the size of the viewstate which I'm hoping to do.
