has anyone else seen an increase in USPS Priority Mail shipping rates over the last few weeks? Have a customer that has called citing that their USPS Priority shipping rates are higher than they use to be (sometimes as much as 20%); and that this just recently started happening and is affecting orders. We upgraded them to the latest BVC2013 version about 2 months ago and they are thinking the BV app is the cause of this even though I explained I do not see how it could be. I do not use USPS Priority for any of our own shipping so i have no way of being able to compare internally. I do see where USPS is raising their rates on Jan 22nd, but we are still a few days away from that scheduled increase.
any feedback is greatly appreciated! |

A simple way to test that is to go to the USPS website and get a rate quote using the same addresses, package dimensions, weight, etc. |

given that one order they showed me as an example is 4 different products, how should I calculate the final dimensions for the package? just do a straight add of the L, W, and H of all 4? the weight is self explanatory.
Just want to be sure that I will do the same thing as the algorithms do it |

First you'll want to check each product to see if any of them are set to ship separately. Each product that has this setting will ship in its own package. Take a look at the post below to see how package dimensions are calculated: http://www.bvcommerce.co...alculated.aspx#post16249Also, if the merchant is using any of the Packaging Rules in the Shipping Rate Rule Providers methods there could be additional considerations (e.g. box dimensions used instead of product dimensions, additional weight for boxes, etc). |

Aaron,
the problem wound up being some customer education needed. USPS rates from the USPS site was coming back exactly as was stated to the customer thru the BV store. The difference is, USPS also offers discounts if the postage/shipping is ordered online. BV pulls the "at post office" rates. Customers uses stamps.com for their USPS postage, and apparently stamps.com also pushes the discounts. So I showed the customer the accurate rates on the USPS site for "at post office", along with the discounts that are offered for online postage.
Maybe this would be an good feature that could be added to BV - where the store admin has the option to select 1. "at post office" rates or 2. "online discount" rates when adding a USPS shipping option to the store |
