I'm trying to download my store's order database using SQL server management studio so I can import it into Access and run a query on it. Can someone shre how that's done? I can log into the server and find the table, but I've never used this software before.

Rick,

The orders are made up of parts of many tables. If you're not familiar with writing SQL queries it may be fairly difficult for you.

Have you considered using the QuickBooks export tool or the XML web services to write a small program to export orders?

You can directly connect Access to SQL databases and view the tables but again, I think it may be more difficult than you realize when you see all of the tables involved.

Marcus,

Thanks for your reply -- very helpful. Perhaps I should tell you what I am trying to do. I have two purposes for this data.

The first is to pull order totals, including breakouts of shipping costs, taxes and items so I can run a report in Access to generate a monthly sales tax report for the store.

Second, I need all order data exported in CSV format so I can import it into UPS Worldship.

Can you help with either of these?

There is a daily sales report in BV Commerce 5 that can give you all of the totals. If it is missing a column it might be easier to modify the report instead of starting from scratch. If you still want to pull directly from the database the totals should all be in the bvc_Order table.

Andy Miller at Structured-Solutions.net has a great add-on for BV Commerce that synchronizes orders with UPS Worldship. It also autopopulates tracking information back up to the store and I highly recommend it. It's very inexpensive compared to the time it will save your shipping team.
