We presently have the majority of our products set to allow orders when out of stock. This seems to work well when orders are placed in the another ecommerce product, but when phone orders are entered in the administration, adding the out of stock item to the cart results in this message:

"Only 0.0000000000 of the item TS-EQTFPO are available for purchase. Please adjust your requested amount."

Is there an additional configuration setting that I am overlooking?

I must be overlooking something. Can someone point me in the correct direction? I'm sure it must be that if an order can be placed for an item that is out of stock through the storefront, that it can also be placed through the administration.

I'm guessing this is not normal behavior for BV, as no one has posted a response on an otherwise active and supportive forum.

I'm tested the same situation in a testing installation of BV we've contracted for on another server, and the problem doesn't seem to happen there. So I'm guessing the problem lies in some unremoved custom code our previous developers had added in. Can anyone give me a clue as to where to look? Would it be in the stored proceedures? That's about the only place I haven't restored to the default installation and started over. How can I revert the database back to the default without loosing all the product data and category data that we've added in by hand?

I have found a IT firm that is willing to help us. They are unfamiliar with BV but have significant experience in SQL and asp.net. They feel we should be able to back up the data and revert the database to it's default installed state to undo any of the problematic stored procedure changes that MicroMedic may have done. What they are looking for is a way to re-import the data once the problem code is removed. I am only aware of the import/export tool, which will not import the majority of the database. Others on the forum have mentioned the migration tool, which seems to handle more of the data. It this what we should be considering to use, or is there another utility?

Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s)
You/they could setup a new, clean store; export the stored procedures as SQL CREATE scripts; delete all the stored procedures in your current database; then run the scripts to recreate the standard sprocs.

Shelly -- yes -- that was a problem we saw as well. Scott Mech fixed it for us relatively easily, so that you could backorder through the admin screen. I have his contact info, but I've been having trouble getting in contact with him lately, so I'm not sure what he is up to or if he is still doing BV work.

Joe - do you, by any chance, remember if the problem was there from the beginning or did it appear later on? I'm trying to figure out why our default installation is not showing the problem and our customized version is. That seems to imply that the issue was introduced. Seems like a lot of merchants don't take phone orders, but we certainly do. We're on the phone taking orders all day.

I just did a test here on a site that is 5.6 and core is stock. Test order via dashboard.

Item set to: Out of Stock (Do Not Allow Orders)

Resulting in: item cannot be added to cart

Conclusion: Works the way it should

I think it was a problem that came to be in one of the later patches (5.4 or 5.5)

Thanks Joe and Matt for your help. At least I know that it's a problem with the basic software. Maybe the next upgrade will fix it.
