How Do I Fix A Mistake in Capitalization Without Altering the Entire Site

I'm throwing this out there both as a warning and for tips. In working with our programmer I think we can find a solution but I'm wondering if there is one that is possible without having to dig into the code. Here is the scenario, this was a self inflicted wound. We have a main page for a brand of custom USB drives where somewhere along the line (my fault) I used Usb instead of USB to describe the link. The address you see to the left is the sitewide in the category list. When we were referencing it as a custom link from elsewhere on the site I used _USB which the search engines all picked up unon. Worse I also used all lower case so we have three versions of that same page indexed. It's being flagged in the webmaster tools as duplicate content. I've fixed the bad links and also altered the content in the hopes that it has changed so much it may unwind as an error. The problem is in IIS there is no way of doing a redirect for capitilization errors. I also found another situation where I did the same thing. This has been wrong for years, we have the promotional pens page with the Pens capitalized. I know this is bad form but it's been that way for years. A month ago we noticed pens.aspx appearing in the directory and immediately there was a drop in results. All the links are fixed but trying to redirect via 301 from the wrong one to the new one creates an endless loop. First watch your links! Second, is there an easier way maybe within BV to do the redirect?

If you're using IIS7 you should be able to use case sensitive redirect rules, http://learn.iis.net/pag...onfiguration-reference/. "Should" since the documents indicate that you can, it should be easy to test. |
