Justin,
Just about any software I've used shows the changes made in the current release. While it might take some time to compile this, the amount of time it saves users and developers is substantial. This goes toward providing a good level of customer support. |

Agreed. And I don't need every little comment from source control, but any major changes that may affect modifications I've made can go a long way. I've been bitten by the lack of docs and organized changelogs too many times after updates. |

SP3 now. Kitting Later. I have included a laundry list of items that would be worth looking at. The first group of items being critical for effective use.
/////////////// Current Pressing Issues ///////////////////
--Sales, Offers and Promotion Codes-- 1. There is not a method to create an offer that designates a shipping method and a product. For example: Offer = 50% off International Shipping for products A, B and C. Changing “OffersEdit.aspx?type=Shipping” to include a product selection. 2. On Checkout, Receipt, Order History pages and email templates - discounts are not displayed as line items, although they have been applied. 3. Non-Applicable Codes Allowed to be Entered When there are conflicts of sales/offers there is no error message or notification alerting the customer of this conflict. 4. Promotion codes should have a [short description] that will be tied to the specific offer. This will allow for a more user-friendly presentation in the shopping cart. 5. The ability to apply a promotion codes should be available in the Checkout page.
--Orders & Shipping-- 1. Email functionality tied to Orders. For example: Send selected orders Email Template ABC. This would be helpful for follow-up emails/surveys.
--Miscellaneous-- 1. ForgotPassword.aspx TYPO- “recieve” should be “receive”
//////////// Features /////////////////////
--Orders-- 1. Archive Completed Orders
--SEO Features-- 1. Custom Pages to include Meta Title 2. Google XML Sitemap generation
--Users / Marketing-- 1. Ability to “filter” users on the People page by Role. This will allow for easier identification of user type (admin, customer, wholesale customer, etc). 2. Increased functionality for adding users to Mailing lists. Using the same layout when adding products to a category ( ADD / REMOVE ). Also include the filter by role. 3. Customer Loyalty Management Program - Tied to rewards, customers earn points with purchasing and can redeem points for purchases, and promotions can be run around these points as well. 4. Ability to Export User's Via Admin 5. Subscribe to mailing list when registering. Admin controlled on-off. (see attachment) 7. Ability to create an email template "on the fly" for MailingList_Send. Instead of having to create a template for every email I want to send, allow for a black Subject line, From Email and HTML Body.
--Catalog-- 1. Product Choice TEMPLATES - Ability to create templates for choices... (basically the ability to choose a shared choice, then edit it, knowing that once you edit it, will no longer be a shared choice) 2. Product "collateral" links. - Ability to upload files and associate them with a product (PRIOR TO PURCHASE). This is perfect for attaching PDF's, Samples and Demo's. If I am selling MP3's, I would want to upload a sample for someone to be able to download and listen to. PDF's are great as spec sheets or "Sizing Charts" for clothing. 3. Manufacturer logos. 4. Display Manufacturer logo on product template. 5. Manufacturer Category content block - Creates a list of all manufacturers. When selected, displays all categories/subcategories of all products within that manufacturer. (display all categories that have products that are associated with this manufacturer.)
--Reports-- 1. Keyword Searches - Currently no date range, you need to reset the search to 0 in order to poll accurate recent data 2. Sales by Product (most popular products) - these report s are inaccurate. Only include items for orders that have been placed. [where IsPlaced = 1] 3. Sales by Payment Method 4. Sales by promotional offer X items purchased (summary of products) 5. Ability to export all reports to Excel 6. Ability to print reports
As always, feel free to contact me for details |

Hello All,
I'm considering BVCommerce in the hosted solution or perhaps the purchased edition depending on some answers about the hosting division. Seems like SP3 has been delayed for a long time and not one post indicated they would wish to wait for ?kitting?.
If I purchase v5 for hosting on my own when can I exspect SP3 and the bug fixes it contains?
Thanks, Chris

I didn't read every word in all these posts, but I think I may be the only one who does not want to update their site twice.
Will I be able to go directly from sp2 to sp4?
I'm quite happy with sp2 and am looking forward to kitting.

So when do you think Kitting will be available post SP3? |

Paul,
It isn't a matter of having to update your site once or twice, but I think that most of those who responded would rather have SP3 fixes now and wait for kitting than have to wait much longer for SP3. As long as we keep finding things that need fixing, there will be service packs( BV also adds new features with some service packs), so don't think that you will only have to update one more time. If you have heavily modified your site's code, then updating can be time comsuming, but it is your choice to incorporate the fixes. Once we get a list of SP3 fixes, then you can decide if you want to wait until the next SP. |

I appreciate all the work that's been done so far to fix bugs and don't want this to sounds overly critical, but with all the bugs currently part of BV5 it's more of a Beta product than a final release. I for one, and I assume many others, are waiting for SP3 to make the product a real release. Additional features aren't what we need now. We need a solid product without bugs.

I don't think we have a use for the kitting feature and I think we can live with SP2 fixes for a while if needed. I posted most of our wish list for SP3 http://forums.bvcommerce.com/de...lt.aspx?f=80&m=49697. However I did see a couple search requests in this thread. How about an option to add some (1-n) customizable search fields on your product, catalog and custom pages? You have several category templates out there now. How about adding some customizable search fields in the templates? Do the same with products and I would like to be able to search our custom pages as well (by custom url would be fine). Maybe create it so you can set them to a default setting like you did for the "Inventory - When Item is out of Stock" question (nice fix by the way). We would also like to set a maximum order quantity (of 1) on some of our products (clinic registration forms). I don't really look at SP2 as being a beta product. Yes, there a lot of fixes but most of them are really enhancements or making the product more user friendly. I don't look at it as being broken and subsequently unusable for the most part like most beta's. Bob Noble

Less is more.
I'd vote for a solid, well documented SP3 sans kitting. Stability and working as expected is more important than "more features".
Baseline themes like Freshstart would also be a geat help.

Don't let the documentation hold up SP3, if it can be released with the promise the docs will follow in short order, that makes the most sense.

I don't know if this has been taken care of not, I thought I would re-mention it so it can be fix in the SP3 issues. We are located in Texas and when ever someone makes a purchase over $75.00 they receive free shipping which is the way it is suppose to work. The problem is the Sales Tax is figuring in the shipping charges before they are deducted. The end result is the Sales Tax is too high with the free shipping charges being figured in. It should only be charging Sales Tax on the item/s total excluding the free shipping. Richard www.somethingmorestore.com

Hello Rick,
Rick said: "I appreciate all the work that's been done so far to fix bugs and don't want this to sounds overly critical, but with all the bugs currently part of BV5 it's more of a Beta product than a final release. I'm currently considering BVCommerce, able-commerce and Aspdotnetsf. BV looks really good but I'm starting to feel like SP3 has been put on the back burner right before the holiday rush, so BV could launch their new hosting plans. Aspdotdotnetsf product feels primitive and able-commerce just released their 7.0 product which could have issues so I'm really torn on what to choose.
Would you recommend BVCommerce at this point Rick? Chris

Able 7 isn't out yet, it's still in beta. By the time it's released presumably SP3 will be out. If you need kitting Able supposedly will have it/has it, has 6+ standard themes and they're using the straight up asp.net theming which means you can view live-time within Visual Studio. That's if the software works as advertised which is a big if...hopefully this week there will be more news forthcoming on Sp3

BV is a solid product. Some issues have hotfixes pending SP3. It isn't a beta product at all. |

OOTB the product previously mentioned is pretty neat, I checked out a demo. I think they're integrating component art controls which is nice, and I like the dynamic drop downs...select Gender--Male and through Ajax a new ddl appears with sizes for men...neat. It does not have workflows though which BV does.
Have we determined if the sort by price is back in SP3 or is this most frequently used feature (as rated by several articles) still missing?

I wouldn't consider ASP.Net theming a plus. |

Cliff, true.
I'm assuming the lack of answers regarding the drop down "sort by price" "sort by name" means it's not coming in Sp3?

Froogle Feed: In SP3 I would like the ability to set the time and date for the feed to upload. Ie: Every 29 days or specifically set the time and date. I would like to see it for any Feed BV Commerce will support. |
