I'd like to have an "empty" category that has no products, but does have subcategories.

If the user selects the empty category on any menu, I'd like them to transparently be forwarded to the first sub-category.

Any way to do this?

Would a single page with just subcategories as icons work better for you?

You may be able to create a custom link in the primary category to your first category in the admin, but I'm not sure if that's possible since I haven't tested it. Might be something to look into, though.

No, because then all my subcategories would be mixed together.

However, I did end up solving this by creating my top level categories as "Custom Link" type of categories. Then I just set the link on that category to forward to the URL of the first subcategory. It seems to work for now.

Thanks.

Cool, thought so. That's probably the best way to go without getting into the code.
