Looks Great, can't wait!
Wondering if there are shared kits? This would be, for example, all hard drives in a shared kit. Assuming that all the hardrives would be offered with the purchase of a base sytem. Then when configuring a base system, you would select a shared hardrive kit and it would add all the choices of hard drives at one time.
This would be similar to the shared accessories in BVC4
Thanks,
Bob

Marcus, Is there an option for the actual "kit/bundle" to have its own sku? Can inventory be tracked on the actual "kit/bundle"?

Scott,
Yes, Kit/Bundles are normal products with SKUs base prices inventory, etc. They just have extra parts for the kit.

One Suggestion/Feature that I would found useful for kitting (moreso bundling) would be allowing the price to of the bundled parts to be based off of the pricing for the item individually. It would help prevent the need to update pricing in several places. Perhaps having an option to set the price or base the price as a % and/or a fixed amount above/below the site price similiar to the way shipping options are configured could be introduced. |

Scott,
Kitting is not available until Service Pack 3 comes out. I have been waiting also. Don't know when this would be.

Since this video was posted a year ago, and seemed functional, what has changed to keep kitting from being available in the next release? |

Kitting was built on the admin side and actually shipped with SP2 but it was turned off. The difficult part has been integrating it with the front end workflows while not impacting bug fixes and other patches. It's a constantly changing target and unfortunately has taken much longer than originally anticipated.

Gotcha, thanks. It doesn't come up a lot in client requirements, but it does come up. |

Hello, It may not come up as requirements for most people, but I was interested in BVC4 because of shared accessory product options. There was a couple of things that needed corrections in this option (item count), but was the reason I got BVC5. All of my products have options that are other products, in addition to other drop down and text field options.
I bought BVC5 last November and can't use it. I thought it would have the same options. The shared accessory option was deleted in favor of kitting. Not knowing how kitting would or not work in combination with other options, I still held on to BVC5. Thought I would know if it was workable or not by now. Due to the delay, I had to find alternate solutions. I guess all I have is the BVC5 File.
What I find annoying is that a function is removed before an equivalent or better replacement is available. Even though not too may people are complaining about kitting, I am sure others who used shared accessories in BVC4 and those who saw the kitting video were looking forward to this function.
I guess I'll wait until BVC6 and bring BVC5 out of mothballs and upgrade.
Bob.

I've been using the 2004 manual because the 5 manual is still lacking. In reading I'm finding there were a lot of features removed from 5 as Bob says. Some of them look pretty nice like the old grid for choices. Here we are now a long time later and instead of those features being put back in we have a new expensive solution without the fixes in the original.
I think and maybe many of you think the focus should have been on bringing the 5 product up to par with the 4 product before anything else got done. Coming out and saying it now - I think some might feel like time spent on the signature product should/could have been spent getting 5 up to speed.
Many have outlined the features needed to be put back into 5:
Sorting by Price/Name/Manufacturer in the category pages
Choices as Bob and others state in lieu of kitting or in place of kitting until it becomes available
A "fresh start" type theme that is functional. I understand these are designed to be starting points but none of the stock templates are presentable in their current form. They're not really presentable even with significant work.
More than anything get the 5 product up to speed before releasing new products again as for many it leaves a bad taste and for some as bob has indicated they've gone elsewhere.

Hi Bob,
As mentioned in the "SP3 Opinions" topic, we have developed an accessory module for BVC5. |
