Does the BVC5 support the ability for the admin to set up a "donation" so that the user may enter their own "price"? The fixed pricing works great for products, but some of our customers (non profits) also would like to give users the ability to donate to thier cause.
Thanks

Some non-profits I've seen have a donation product in the amount of $1 and the price is adjusted by the quantity. Not the most beautiful thing in the world, but it works.
A classier method would be to use preset increments as customer options in a drop-down or radio button list, like $10, $25, $50, $100, $1,000,000.
I'm sure in BVC5 a product template could be made that would accept user-defined amounts. |

Hello Chuck.
BV Commerce 5 has a few options for this.
First, we have a “Customer Selected Price” Gift Certificate. Don’t let the words “Gift Certificate” fool you though. This item has many options. You can assign whatever name you want, images, descriptions, etc… You can then assign anywhere in you store as you would a product. You can also modify the Gift Certificate email template. This allows you to completely hide the fact that the customer purchased a gift certificate. It would be transparent to the customer and would work great for donations.
Secondly you could use Cliff’s option and create a product with “product modifiers” that can adjust the price based on set values. Therefore you could add increments to a drop down or radio button list that the customer can select from.
Third, you could create your own product template like Cliff mentioned. This is extremely easy and allows you to build a template that you would only use on “donation” products. You could custom tailor this template for your needs. |

Nick, thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to get it to show up in our demo store, but the only way I can see it is if I search by sku. I cannot get it into a category.
Thanks.

Cliff, I've seen your recommendation being used in a few places,.. user defined pricing can be handled easily in BV2004 using an addon we have for sale. It's great for simple donation taking, custom payments or anything that needs custom pricing or a real-time calculated price. Here's a link w/info and a demo http://www.merchantcheckout.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=BBC-BV-VP |

Hello Chuck.
Open a category and navigate to the product selection screen. You should see this gift certificate in the "product picker". You can then add it to the category.
Likewise you can add it to a product rotator, grid, or any other area where you can add products. |

BetterBuilt - your add-on is interesting and something that we have been in the market for quite some time. How easily customizable is it? i.e. Can we remove the quantity field without impacting the functionality? Is it a user control that we can place throughout the site? What database customizations are required? etc.
Thanks.

remember, this is for bv2004. it is a user control... and very easy to use, set a price, quantity and optional extended description and let it go. You can even set up different product configurations if you need taxable/nontaxable type things etc. the price qty and desc can come from text boxes like my example or from .net programing, javascript, flash, etc.
No database changes, no recompile. Just use it in your code/pages wherever it is needed.
You will notice on the example that the resultant item in the cart has an active qty field. If multiple variable price products are added to the cart, they will stay separate. If a user changes the qty of one of those items, then the item qty changes just like you expect it to. If you want to specifically restrict the user from changing the quantity even after it is added to the cart, then that is not a problem. A variable price product can be configured for that behavior and is already in use in that manner (just not in my demo yet). |
