RMA questions - where do you find this number and how do you email it?

I tried searching for similar questions but all I found was someone who had a similar issue, but there were no replies.
We're having troubles with our Returns/RMA system, and this was one of the coolest features that I really want to work. :)
First of all, customers don't know how to log into their account. I guess I need to find a way to automatically set up customers with an account and email their password once they order. Anyone done this yet? It seems most aren't registering as new customers.
Anyway, so I did a test order and tried to return an item. I couldn't find anyplace where it showed the RMA number for the return, so I couldn't give the customer a number. I also was unable to send them a Return Accepted email, got this message:
<SPAN id=ctl00_MainContent_MessageBox1_MessageText>"This Email Template Could Not Replace All Tags. E-mail Will Not Be Sent."
Any clues, or might this be a bug? |

You can go into the admin and go to Options > Returns and set it to automatically approve RMA's. This will allow the customer to get an RMA number as soon as they request a return. The RMA number is in the Orders > Returns section under RMA Id.
You can force customers to login and create an account by adding the "Require Login Before Checkout" to the "Checkout Started" workflow.
With regards to the error message "This Email Template Could Not Replace All Tags. E-mail Will Not Be Sent." this could come from editing the RMA e-mail. This email can only contain tags that start with "RMA" or with "Site". If you put tags in an e-mail that cannot replace them, then you will get this error. |

Great, thank you for the quick answers!
For some reason I didn't notice the RMA ID number, now of course I see it. :)
I've now forced customers to setup an account or log in before ordering, I think that will make things easier for them when trying to check on their orders.
The email template, I didn't edit the RMA email, and so I tried making it as simple as can be, and still can't get it to email... |
