Has anybody implemented soemthing similar to what they haev on www.etoys.com where you can narrow the choice of what you are looking for by certain attributes, e.g. Age, Brand, Price bracket....

Here is a good example page http://www.etoys.com/Results.html/N/3112/WSSN/BarbieandFriends

I would love to hear if this was possible with bvcommerce and if so hwo to acheive it!

Hi Will,
BV Commerce 5 has dynamic categories that can be used to automatically select products that meet a number of different options. You can dynamically group items by keyword, vendor, manufacturer, price range, last # of items added to store, items added in the past # of days, and by product type. The category links look just like a static category link, and you can nest dynamic and static categories within one of another.

Thanks,
Everett

We have an advanced search feature that you can use to narrow down choices. If that's not enough we can get you a custom programming quote for your own site specific drill down search feature.

Would it be possible to have dynamic categories based on Product Types or Type Properties? :)

Hi Corneliu,
You can currently define the criteria for a dynamic category to display products by their Product Type, but not by type properties. However, you can use keywords in the criteria to help refine the products displayed.

The guided naviation you see on etoys is powered by Endeca.

To get the type of search you see on eToys you will need some heavy lifting. We are doing the same thing but it is very custom and complex programming. There is no plug in. eToys uses Endeca which comes at a minimum cost of $100,000. I received a quote from them. $25K for the software platform and the rest is custom programming. The big boys spend well over $100K. Its mostly custom designing the HTML pages for search and then doing all the mapping of the database as to how you want all the search results to appear. Someone types in "Little Tikes Bike" and you then map what you want the customer can see. You can show all results or take them to a specific landing page. They also tie merchandising into it for cross sells and upsells and popular selling products. They also tie in similar words such as did you mean this instead of what you typed in. Our site isn't live yet but we have spent 3 months custom programming this type of search. I now know why Endeca charges $100K. You can't plug in this type of search as it is different for everyone. I have looked up Endeca's clients and each of their search pages is different for every client. Home Depot uses Endeca and is a another good example of the custom mapping to their products. Type in a product and it will show you sales on items and promos based on what you searched for. They even tie it into analytics so the search is custom to even the user based on past shopping history. We have also learned that search is ongoing as you keep updating it based on user patterns. This is why it is important to tie the search into your analytics programs. You will be surprised as to the terms people use when searching your site. Their terms wont match anything on your site. You also then constantly take their search terms and build them into your search tool.

WillB,

I've got some information for you on how to implement this feature with BV Commerce 5. Call or email our sales number and ask for Marcus.

A couple other good ones.

WebsideStory

Celebros
http://www.celebros.com/

I have worked with WebsideStory with good results and am now building one using Celebros. Celebros offers more control which I like.

Kinda cool on the resuls - Search for Superdude below.
