Hello all,
I'm back again. I saw some other threads recently on BV vs. ASPDNSF and I'm one that went with ASPDNSF and to this point regretting it. A few things that I really overlooked were single-page or guest checkout, customizable url rewriting, big webpage overhead (site is slow) and css based designs... I know I started a little off topic but I'm thinking about scrapping that and getting BV instead so I'm back at looking into it to make sure it meets my requirements.
One specific requirement I am soon going to have (hopefully) is the need for a multi-storefront setup. But instead of running off of one db, I only want the inventory synced between two separate sites. The sites should be able to have separate prices, descriptions, images, etc. with most products overlapping but others only on one site. I realize I'm creating more of a maintenance issue here but there's reasoning for it that I won't get into here. Since this seems to have a WebService layer I'm thinking that won't be too hard to setup and I'm envisioning some kind of sync that happens either on an event (eg. everytime the inventory is changed in one system, a script is called to replicate it in the other) or timed (like every hour or so all inventory is synced). Has anyone had experience with this type of setup? Any recommendations or pointers?
I will be converting my existing site to BV, then adding a second site (also using BV) and launching them together at the same time. I would normally be building all of this myself but I will be looking to hire out for the design of both sites and possibly even the customization for the inventory sync and some basic setup because of a time crunch. Sounds like everyone loves the resposio and appliedi hosting so I'd probably go with one of them there. But if anyone can provide the services to help with anything above feel free to let me know. (I know, the partners page)
I will also mention that this all hinges on a potentially large deal coming through for us (now where's that fingers crossed emoticon...)

My vote of course is for Resposio for your hosting.
For your synchronization issue, if you can't get the 2 sites to synchronize directly, you might want to pick up Quickbooks PoS and the BV5 PoS connector. I know this would amount to a manual system on a computer but it may be the most cost effective approach both time wise and cost wise.

The standard QuickBooks connector also now supports sending inventory levels from QuickBooks back up to BV Commerce stores.

So is the connector some kind of add-on app where you click a button and all orders come down to QB? How does the inventory go back up then, same way? I guess I need to look more into that but great suggestion. And I'm guessing the connector works with multiple stores (do they each need an individual license)?

Yes, the connector runs as a desktop application. Click a button to send items to the POS system, click another to send items up to the web. You can use this tool to connect to any website. |

ok, last question (maybe)... on the BV website I see a POS Connector, and BV Order Export 3. I'm using regular QuickBooks at this point, Marcus mentioned something about the standard QB Connector - which is this? And for the multi site setup, is it easy to toggle between two sites or would I have to manually change the connection info every time? Thanks for the quick responses guys!

When you begin any export, the application will ask for your store URL, admin username and password.

"BV OrderExport 3" = standard QuickBooks connector. The other one is only for QuickBooks Point of Sale

WIll BV OrderExport 3 synchronize inventory for product variants/choices in BVC2004 or BVC5?

In BV Commerce 5 if you have a SKU for a variant that exactly matches an item ID in quickBooks yes, it will synch the inventory.

Could you clarify in regards to BVC2004?
What we have been doing is pulling inventory from QB and updating BVC2004 for each sku, after defining a unique sku for each variant in BVC2004.
