Can you implement a Cancel Order functionality that returns the items to stock but does not delete the order?
For logging purposes I want to keep the cancelled my orders but I need to return the stock back to the products. Can this be implemented?

Thanks,

Corneliu.

Why do you need to keep them? You can (1) just print out the order for record keeping or (2) keep the order but adjust the inventory level. I recommend you be careful with the second option as it could mess up your inventory if the order eventually gets deleted.

I think the system should be implemented smart enough that when I cancel the order it remains in the system with the stock back and if I delete it, it should figure out that the stock was already returned and not do it again. I hate to "fix" the stock manually. I see this as a very "standard" operation that should exist in the system.

I third this request. We're having a tough time figuring out what to do with orders that are cancelled. I hate just deleting them forever. I tried adding a "Void" option, but it didn't return items to inventory and probably still had all the order totals in the reports.

What I have been doing is keeping the order with nothing on it. Just a blank order with no products listed. This leaves the customer in my data base and will display that they may have bought something at one time but I cant tell what.

What your asking for is like Voiding a Check and keeping the record of the Voided check so you can tell who it was made out to.

I think that function would be a useful feature for determining what the canceled order was for. For example, duplicate orders where one is canceled and one is not. Customer may remember requesting cancellation but we currently don't have any proof that he received it. There is a note section you can put comments in as well.

Yeah. Maybe all we need is an "Order Items History" where every change to the products list after the order was placed is recorded.
That way you can even keep track of things like "Oh ... I wanted product X and not product Y. They have the same price. Please exchange them."
I'd like this to be tracked and see exactly what has happened. That way if you "Cancel" an order you remove all the products from the order's products list so you would return the stock back to the product but the lines would be then moved to the order history table.

Maybe I should try to implement this. Would anyone buy such an addin? :)
