Suggestion for a future update:

Unless I am missing something, there is no way to get a "low inventory" warning email -- only a "NO inventory" warning email. I know you can set the "out of stock point" at a higher number than zero -- say 3 -- but then when your inventory drops to 3, then the customers are faced with "This item is out of stock" when it really is not. Sure, they can backorder it, but a lot of customers do not like backordering and will skip the order entirely.

So I'm faced with either having the "out of stock" message displayed for products, or setting all products to Zero out of stock and then I'm really behind my ordering curve for restocking because I need to know when the product reaches a LOW level instead of an out of stock level.

So on the Inventory Page, there needs to be a setting for when the particular product is included in the Low Inventory Email.

Since I haven't received a reply to this -- I'm wondering what everyone else is doing to keep track of inventory -- more specifically re-order points. There must be something outside of BV5 then that is triggering when you reorder products. Surely you don't wait until it gets to zero.

Any input would be appreciated.

Not enough 'real' shop owners here, mostly developers... The SF crowd isn't here yet.

Hello,

I have another cart that allows you to set a reorder pont:

[2]"If you want the store to notify you when the inventory of this product drops to a certain level, enter the number of units in this field." -this would be good to have in BVC5. [/2]

You enter a number and it starts a count down. When you reach that number you get a notice and then everytime someone purchases the item you get the notice until Zero. I set different levels depending on how long it takes me to resupply the item. It's a good idea not to wait for an item to reach zero.

As a backup, I check inventory in Quickbooks

Bob,

Do you use the QB import tool and does that accurately update inventory in QB? And does QB have a "notification" level?

Joe,
I have BVC5, but can't start using it until SP3 comes out.
I use a QB import tool for my current cart, but its not related to BVC5. I use writeitonce which works for all carts.
Yes, Quickbooks does have a place where you can specify a reorder point and you can set up Quickbooks to show you those related to inventory and almost anything else, when you start the program. The reminder has a section called "Inventory to Reorder" and it is based on whatever value you put in the "Reorder Point" field when you create the inventory item.
If you use Quickbooks, you could use the Reorder Point. Of course, you would not get an email, you would have to look at the Quickbook Alerts. You can set up the alerts to show when you start QB in the preferences section.
Attached is an image of the reminder box that pops up when you open QB.
