When I get 3 categories deep

i.e. CAT 1 > CAT 2 > CAT 3

The left nav tree collapses. Losing all ability to click on CAT 1 in the nav tree and lose every other Parent category on the site.

C'mon now....

Anybody have any light to shine on how to fix this so it doesn't collapse?

Matt,

That is not happening on my site. Here is a page that is four categories deep:

Everything seems to be clickable for me.

Martell's talking about the category menu, not the breadcrumbs.

I know it's been mentioned here a few times, and the word was that an updated module wouldn't be included in SP2, but possibly SP3. I vote for a 'hotfix' since the category menu weirdness is the #1 compliant I get from merchants.

I think my explanation is understandable only by myself...LOL...sorry for any confusion.

Attached is a visual of what's happening.

It looks like...

Once you get three levels into the menu tree, level two is visible, but level one (Counters and Kiosks) has disappeared. Does it come back if you climb back to level 2 or is it gone for good? Is level 2 still selectable? It looks greyed out in the tree, but selectable in the breadcrumbs.

Here's one where I'd seen this happen before (thinking about this all day)... Noah's site checK about a month ago:

One of the few places on this site where the tree also goes away.

Hope this helps... you're not alone.

Yes, the navigation comes back. I recall this type of behavior occuring in BV2004, or extremely similar.

In my opinion, it's a usability mistake, however the [collapse tree] should be an option via the category menu control (it may in fact fit in some scenarios).

The category menu control is designed to show up to three levels at a time unless you have the "Show All" option turned on. This is so the control can handle a category tree that goes to an unlimited number of levels. In your case the top level (Counters and Kiosks) disappears to make room for any child categories of Epic cabinets.

One work around would be to use the "Show All" option which will display all categories at once. Another option would be to create a new category menu control with modified behavior.

The Show All option does work, but it does exactly what it says, it shows all :) That's way too many!! LOL...

I understand how the control works OOTB based on your explanation, but it's just not the desired function. I'll see about a custom control.

Thanks.

Matt,

How are things going? Have you come up with a solution for this problem? I'm running into the same thing.

THanks
