I had a missing order number this morning and in looking in the database, the order is there, yet it indicates it is still in "Shopping Cart" -- is an Order ID number assigned to Saved Carts? |

Assignment of an order number is part of the process new order workflow. Based on where the workflow stopped (default setup), it appears that there was a problem when the "Mark placed order" task. Why that occurred I do not know, I would take a look at your event log and see if anything was logged. |

How do you have your inventory set up? Reserve Inventory on "Order Saved" or "Add to Cart"?
We have ours set up on Order Saved. I have noticed data without an order number will show up in our data base occasionally but I cant access it from BV Admin. I'm not sure if this is stuff from current carts or if it is from old ones prior to the latest SP or if it is from when we had it accidentally set to Add to Cart . I know they are not from the BV4 migration because that data is stored in a different section on BV5.
So far none of the people without an order number have showed up for one of our clinics so I'm assuming they were not real.
I think there is a switch somewhere that will purge your Carts. You might want to try doing that then see if the data disappears.

Bob,
The data WITHOUT an order number are shopping carts that have not yet purged (automatically or otherwise).
Joe had inquired about an order number that was "skipped" indicating that it had been assigned somewhere. Based on the standard Process new order workflow, orders are assigned a new order number and then are "Marked as placed" which takes them out of shopping cart status. Since this odd order has an order number, but the db shows it as a shopping cart order, I'm guessing the marked as placed workflow task failed for some reason. |

Actually it was a customer who tried to order something that was listed as out of stock, she started checkout but it gave her an error message. |

BVC, Please use transactions in your code when you run workflows so if something goes wrong you let SQL rollback the transaction. I kind of trust it more to rollback any operation that could not be completed :) |
