I used my hard earned money to purchased BV 5 in Sept 2006 and quickly jumped on it, and got a test store up an working... but I quickly found myself disenchanted because of all of the bugs. Basically, I have not touched it since, and I am still operating on BV4. I have been waiting for something that looks like I could use as a merchant and enjoy all of the touted features. I am not sure we are there yet. Should I keep waiting? Will SP 3 be out soon?

Dean,

Can you give us specific examples of what is preventing you from using the software? We've been running our BV Store on BV Commerce 5 for almost a year now. We've got more than 500 customers running live BV Commerce 5 stores too.

We don't have a release date for SP3 yet but our goal is to get it out before the holiday sales rush.

Dean, It's been a trial working with SP1 and now SP2 especially coming from the cart I had previously. Most, if not all of the fixes, patches and forum tips have come from us here at the forum. Some complaints, some suggestions. You already know the BVC crew won't let you down.

I have no doubt I'm in the right place here. Load SP2, pick and choose the hotfixes that you think will be needed (just load all of them) and begin. Coming from BV4, you're months ahead in the learning curve already.

Many features/fixes lined up for SP3 are already on the forum as hotfixes and upgrades... (I would like to get my hands on kitting SOONER rather than later, though. I've got an entirely new product line ready to go... it'd be a snap if I had this.)

Marcus, September/October/November is probably the WORST time to load, configure and de-bug new software for a merchant. I'm already stocking the shelves, no time to fiddle with SP2 anymore, let alone SP3.... For some of us it's too late for this season. I'll take my SP3 in January.

My business is not tied to the Holidays, but I too would have to wait because my peak sales are from OCT through FEB or MARCH... so I would most likely try to move from BV4 to BV5 in April... even though the bookkeeper here has been screaming for months for me to do something. I can do something between now and the end of Sept though.

I don't have a BV5 store even running right now.. when I applied SP2 update it crashed my store, so I canned the entire thing and decided to wait and install a new clean install of SP3 instead of trying to do an update (maybe not too smart since I had customized it quite a bit).

My reason for waiting is because the update process is stressful for me... I am not as skilled as many others, and I don't like dealing with the process of applying updates and wondering if everything is going to work.... particularly with a live store... so I would just as soon wait for a stable version to be released so I don't have to turn around a few months later and deal with updating the store again. Combine the above with the fact that my hosting company support is much slower than it used to be could mean that my store could be down for several hours even if everything goes pretty smooth.

We have developed our own way of taking a phone order with BV4... which you can do if you do it right... if you do it wrong, it will send the order to the wrong customer's email address. Phone orders is one of the biggest reasons we would like to upgrade. Also, there is a lot of things we would like to do such as free shipping and product specials that we cannot do with BV4.

We bought our BV5 long time ago and applied a lot of customization to it, We do not feel safe to switch to this new site from BV4 since their are a lot of fixes and patches, we do not want to pay to our developer to apply these fixes to our site and later pay him again to apply new fixes that will come in SP3.
We love our BV4, but we do not feel the same with BV5.
One more thing since you guys posted the last update to BV4, but you do not have a clean built of it yet posted to your site for download.
We hope SP3 Will come out soon so we can use it before Christmas season.

Thank you

I have talked to Mitch by email a couple of times. My impression when talking to him is we both pretty much consider ourselves light weights when it comes to developing our site. We took Cliff's TekGear Redux theme and modified it to meet our needs. Although I like his site better, ours went live in November.

I can understand your concern with doing the updates. That would scare me and I am fairly confident I would crash our store as well. Mitch and I have something else in common. We use Resposio to host our web sites. Noah does our updates for free. It takes him less time to do the updates then it would take him to bill us for doing them.

The point I am trying to make is, having a web host the knows the software can save you a lot of headaches down the road. Yeh. You can do it yourself, but there is a learning curve.

Bob, my site is based on Painted Paper. Aside from widening the site and getting rid of the upper menu header (I think that's what it's called) and a few minor tweaks and fixes, it's pretty much ootb.

I second recommending Resposio.
