Shipping charged on non-shipping product when combined with shipping products

When a shipping item and a non shipping item are added to the cart together, shipping is charged for the entire order. Shipping is not charged when a non shipping item is ordered separately. Any suggestions or is this a bug? Thanks

I'll assume the shipping item will be picked up along with the non-shipping item? Else, wouldn't you want to charge shipping for the shipped part? |

Do you have them set up as from a different vendor? I have many items that are nonshipping -- and quite heavy -- that do not add to shipping costs when combined with other items. You can set up a dummy vendor if necessary to assign those products to. |

What shipping provider are you using? Also, could I get a link to your store with some example products so that we could run a few tests? |

The "non-shipping item" is a membership.

This client has set up shipping rates based upon order total, not using USPS or UPS rates. The non shipping items are different levels of membership.
We have other clients that use shipping set up with USPS. They also have non-shipping (continuing education classes) and shipping items (study guides). They don't have the same issue as the first client.
Neither client has Vendors or Manufacturers set up because they carry all stock and ship themselves.
Could the problem be occurring because they have shipping set up "By Order Total" and BV is then ignoring when "Non Shipping Item" is selected?

This has been resolved and will be in SP3. |

Hello,
Were going to be selling both shippable and non-shippable items at the option level. e.g. option A. CD (requires shipping). Option B download ampg file (no shipping). Will the sp3 fix allow us to do this at the option level or would it be required that we duplicate our entire product catalog into shippable and non-shippable items.
e.g. we have 1000 songs to sell... do we need to maintain 1000 products with 2 options each, one shippable and one not. OR 2000 products 1000 of each.
I hope that makes since.
TIA Chris

Nope, you just have to setup a choice on a product. In the "Edit Product Variations" screen you can set individual choice combinations as non-shipping. |

We just updated the store from sp2 to sp3.1 and are still seeing this issue. The client has a $10,000 golf trip (non-shipping) to Ireland and people are getting a hat or shirt when they sign up and are being charged shipping as if $10,000+ worth of goods are being shipped.

Justin, if you are using modifiers, your solution won't work. Is there any chance modifiers will be as editable as choices in the future? |

We will have to look into seeing how hard it would be to make a non-shipping modifier. Modifiers will never be editable in the same way as choices, if they were then choices and modifiers would be the same thing. Choices are editable in the way that they currently are because choices are just extra products in the backend, but modifiers are stored entirely differently. |

This is one of those improvements that could backfire so hopefully it's thought through.
Justin we sent a request through the site contact form for some custom coding. No reponse, not sure if the form went through.
