I've noticed that the package size feilds in Fed Ex Ship Mgr. are left blank despite the fact that all of my products have dims. I seem to be getting more or less accurate rates at the checkout page so I'll assume they are serving at least some function.

I saw a thread in the BV4 forum re: 4.6 not passing dims along to Ship Mgr.... I'd sure like to be able to avoid having to enter the dims into Ship Mgr. since for 95% of my products the size of the package is predictable.

Andy?

Mitch,

It's always been my understanding that the only function the dimensions play in ShipManager is to determine if it's an oversize package or not, otherwise they are ignored. I've never had the dimensions -- through Shipper -- pulled into either UPS or FedEx

hey mitch, We can get away with just the weight for a majority of the catalog but it just so happens that the most popular products are at or around 25 x 25 x 20 package size with weights hovering from 10 - 15 lbs. (Big box, low weight)

So just weight returns a fedex residential rate at or around $12-$19 but with the dimensions it's actually $21 - $42.

It seems like Andy's shipper can handle this with the Package Rules feature. Just gotta make time to get migrated to BV5 as 2004 is an awesome app, but it's time to harness the new features.

BV2004 is calculating the rates correctly now that I upgraded to 2004.9 as an update to the thread you referenced!

Huh?...What?...Is it morning?

The current version of Shipper does not include package dimensions in the data that is sucked down from the store. This is partly because SF never exposed the virtual package dimensions that it calculates and BVC2004 stopped calculating package dimensions altogether. Now that BVC5 includes dimensions (sort of) and my Shipping Rate Provider Suite calculates real dimensions, I am looking for ways to include the dimensions in the data that is sucked down by Shipper.

Andy, I'll look forward to that. There is a big difference in rates between two boxes that are comparable in volume and weight, but very different in girth. Here, length matters.
