Hello, I am new to the forum & new to BVSoftware.
I came from a Home Grown aaplication that gave me tons of reporting & feel lost now coming to BVSoftware as I do not have the tools I used.
My biggest issue right now is that I cannot see where most of my orders are coming from.
7 out of 10 times we are not able to record any refer information so it is hard for me to justify where to spend our Online Marketing doallars. Does anyone have any suggestions for me.
Thanks,
Pete

Welcome.
Your host should be able to provide some statistics for you. If you are hosting yourself, there are software packages to install on the server that can tell you where are getting referrals from. The info is buried in the server logs, if you want to do it manually, but that would be just nuts! I host my own sites and I've been using DeepMetrix, but since Microsoft bought them out, I waiting to see what will be offered to see if I need to switch. You can also use the Google Webmaster tools and see what comes from Google. There are many packages out there and I'm not familiar with them, maybe someone else wil chime in.
Noah at Resposio would be a good source of SEO-type info, also. |

[3]Hello,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>[/3]</FONT>

[3]All orders that are received list the referrer right on the order under the order number. I can download the orders, with the referrer field, and sort to see which referrer(s) the sales are coming from. This is a very simple solution that would be nice if BVC5 has this.<o:p></o:p>[/3]</FONT>

Thats exactly it.... I need to know where my SALES Are coming from... I can be getting tons of traffic from many sites & if they do not produce sales they are of no use to me.
Our system occasionally shows the refer from the slaes again 7 out of 10 orders have no refer info. This is crucial for me toadvertise properly. There must be something out there that can give us better refer info.
Most PPC engines such as Nextag, Shopping.com & many others have ther own ROI systems.
I am thinking I want to install this snipet of code on our confirmation page to get those results, but we should have something internally that I can compare stats too... doesnt everyone agree?
Thanks for everyone help. Please keep the posts coming. I appreciate it.
Pete

We track our web source sales by setting up an affiliate for anything we pay for. Commission = zero. Also on our clinic registration form besides name age and experience we have a required "How did you hear about us" field.

Bob, I do the same thing with affiliate IDs but it's really using a screwdriver when you need a hammer...
The affiliate IDs are starting to stack up on a couple sites however it's wonderful to just hit the affiliates sales report and see everything you need. |

If you can add tracking IDs, Google Analytics does a good job of giving you an idea of where your sales are coming from, though Google doesn't distinguish between Yahoo organic and Yahoo PPC clicks unless you set your Yahoo search terms up using Google's Cross-Conversion utility, which you can then track clicks and revenue. |

I know we have some redundancy when we use affiliates and the required referral info on our registration page, but, it has provided some interesting data. It is a rare occurrence when the customer puts the affiliate on the registration form as his referral source. My conclusion is: They hear about us from source A, then search for us or remember to purchase when they see our ad on the affiliates' page.
We find the affiliate links invaluable, particularly when we a call from one our affiliates wanting us to renew our ad.

Pete, Upon reconciliation, we have found using the affiliate reporting built into BVCommerce to be inaccurate. The tracking/conversion solution we developed to use with BVC allows us to populate various ROI trackers at each CSE/traffic source as well as full population to Google Analytics, which we use to reconcile against each individual tracker and/or internal tracking.

I can vouch for Scott's code -- it works beautfully and I get tons of information on shoppers in Google Analytics. |

How do I get more information on this code?
Is there a demo anywhere.
As an Example.... We are using Nextag as an advertising source.
From what I can see & that is looking at the refer domain nextag.com, the campaign is making us money. I still believe we are making more than what I can see in this tool.
Also, We sent an email out yeatersday to our Customers. We used a company called Magnet Mail.
I added a coupon code to this email & as of yesterday my refer stats are telling me this email generated 1 order.
When I look at Sales by Coupon, I see over 50 orders....

Pete, In regards to your email, the referer typically shows up blank (except some webmail platforms). My suggestion follows along with others, to get Google Analytics setup, and in your email marketing links (and your nextag links) you can tag the links with querystrings that will allow you to pull up these ROI reports in Google Analytics. For example, every link from Nextag, instead of being: http://www.mysite.com/widgets/widget-a.aspx would be http://www.mysite.com/wi...a.aspx?utm_source=nextag or something of the sorts. And the same thing goes for email, just tag the links, have the GA tracking code, and you'll have all the reporting you'll need. (Not saying that GA is 100% accurate because it isn't - but it is a decent solution). Follow through this forum post to get GA setup and read through GAs site to learn how to use the tracking codes and reporting. I also had a migration from a homegrown solution that had referrer stats built in and have switched it over to using GA and have been happy with the results. |

Scott it might be more helpful if you ballpark the prices for such services.
