Somehow i've got a negative "quantity reserved" on the inventory of a product ?
Is this a deliberate possibility ?

How do i get the quantity reserved back to zero without having to edit the database manually ?

I've seen that happen too, not sure how it does, perhaps if you adjusted the inventory for an item through the Product page, and then deleted an order which would have also returned an item.

But if you go to the Inventory Edit screen, you can set the reserved amount back to 0

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Your solution raises a second problem.

On the inventory edit screen if you just select the products by using the category drop-down box, it doesn't list discrete product choices - just the top level product. However if you enter some search text in the search box, you seem to get the product choices :shocked:

Have you experienced the same unusual behaviour.

I've seen this happen in our store. May be something to do with the "reserve quantity at checkout" option.

The possible scenario is this: Customer starts checkout (or even completes order) thus reserving the quantity. As part of your normal inventory routine you manually update your inventory numbers setting quantity reseved back to zero, not realizing that the reason the quantity is reserved because of an order. Either the customer or yourself cancel the order or never complete it, thus causing the quantity reserved to go down by the number in the cart/order. . . thus become a negative number. Moral of the story, never manually adjust the "reserved" quantity without checking cart or order contents.

We had some problems with inaccurate inventory in the past both in BV4 and BV5. I think there may have been a bug in the past but I think they fixed it or at least made the inventory settings more user friendly.

You should be reserving inventory on "Order Saved" to get an accurate count. And as mentioned above, try not to add the item back to inventory twice when canceling an order. I learned to check the inventory before and after making any adjustments just to make sure I didn't screw it up.

We have not had any inventory issues in the last few months since SP2 that couldn't have been caused from before SP2.

My application was started with BVC5 SP2 and i had the inventory issues none-the-less. I can't really explain what happened to cause the problem but clearly it shouldn't have happened because i haven't tinkered with anything that could have caused it.


Could someone tell me the recommended way to cancel an order. Presumably there must be a way to cancel an order which returns reserved stock to stock without having to go through the "return products" path. For example, if a customer's payment fails and they never provide a workable payment method. There doesn't seem to be a "status" for cancelled.
