If a customer purchases 30 one-pound bags of coffee from our website, our UPS rate is currently set to calculate 30 lbs. plus 5 percent. However, an order such as this will need to be shipped in multiple boxes so the 5 percent will not cover our shipping cost. We're trying to keep our customers' ship costs to a mimimum so we do not wish to inflate the weight of each item nor would we like to add more than 5 percent if possible.

The "Ship Separately" feature works well for our wholesale candy cases, but does not seem to be the answer for a 30-bag coffee order.

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Joe

Joe,

If you use Andy Miller's Shipping add-on you can set up package sizes by volume or weight so that the costs are automatically calculated for multiple boxes.

...or item count. You can put the bags into boxes packages of 6 bags each. This sample is almost identical to what you describe,

Thanks, Joe . . .

. . . and, wow, very slick, Andy. That seems to be the answer. Most of our orders, though, are combo orders. For example, four one-pound bags of coffee, two one-pound bags of caramel creams and three one-pound bags of salted cashews. So I'm assuming all of my one-pound items would be grouped together (wine, in your example). Then I need to determine the maximum number of one-pound bags that will fit into our largest box and that would be my < or = factor. Am I getting this? Thank you. J

Hello Joe,

Yes, I think you have it. You can have a series of packaging rules, and each rule can use different criteria. For example, you can use item count for some specific products, weight for products in certain categories, and volume for everything else. There are about 2 dozen properties you can examine and combine, and an unlimited number of rules.

The end result is a set of virtual packages that correspond to your real packaging. You can even assign real box dimensions and names to your virtual packages so that you know exactly how to pack the order during processing.

Hey Joe -- can you email me ([email protected]) -- I'm interested in some of your products -- do you resell?
