we're trying to launch a new store for a client (BV5 SP2), and they are offering a variable gift certificate (where the user types in the amount they want). We have created the GC in the admin, but it is not showing when you go to http://siteneame/giftcertificate.aspx - everything (menus, headers, etc) all show in proper placement on page, but no GC content.
Any ideas? |

I wish I knew the answer to this because I'm encountering the same problem. I'm going to do the genius thing and consult the documentation, if I make headway I'll post it here. |

I glanced thru the manual and didn't see anything right off that was telling me any special secrets; I'll go back thru it again with a little more detail and see....will also post back if I see anything... |

Have you tried assigning to a category (even a hidden one)? I have one created and it works just fine |

If I view the GC in the store (by searching for "gift") it shows and I can "edit product" and assign it to a catagory, and it will display OK under a product template page. I just cannot get it to display as a true GC |

I'm not following you. What is the difference between:
1. Displaying OK on the store; and 2. Display as a true GC
If it displays okay on the store, cannot customers enter a value and add it to the cart? |

Joe, I looked at your GC page... You should make a custom page or PDF of a good looking GC with places to hand write the amount and code, and place a link to it in the description. This would eliminate the need to email for a paper version. I like your graphic.
Q... Is the code sent in the order confirmation or do you have to email it to the shopper later? |

Mitch,
That's a good idea for mailing -- have them print the page and cut it out, write in the code. I'm fairly certain that the code is automatically sent. I've only had one order for a GC and it's been used -- without my intervention -- so I have to assume it worked correctly! :-) |

Joe,
What I mean by my comments is that id I "convert" the GC to a product, it shows in the store, but I need to assign product variables to the product for the various dollar amounts wanted. Hence, the GC coupon code for the customer to use to redeem the GC is not generated as this is now a product and not a GC anymore in the eyes of the BV software. I cannot get the GC to show any content under the GC page if I try to view it as a true GC thru the BV program. |
