Anyone else have trouble emailing to Yahoo?

Order confirmations, Contact Us replies, etc., seem to be getting caught in Yahoo's filters a bit more than usual. Not bouncing back, just not making it to the addressee.
Anyone else having problems getting through?
I'm thinking of adding text like "Yahoo mail users.. turn down your filters a notch or two." |

I have been having issues with Yahoo emails as well. I sometimes receive a "bounce back" message saying the message is being delayed or something like that. I haven't yet found a solution.

We did some digging and someone mentioned valid SPF records. We haven't had any trouble since.

I've had issues with hotmail/MSN emails. While not store related, the people sending to my wife get a notice about delays, etc. After checking the logs on the server, the messages are getting rejected by my mail server due to the DNS for that sender's mail server not being valid. So if Yahoo, etc is having issues with emails from your store, the issue is with the DNS of the email server you are using for your store. |

http://www.openspf.org/Microsoft will delay or bounce emails from domains that don't have valid SPF records. I think maybe Yahoo is doing it now too.

You can run one free dns report from dnsstuff.com In checking your site Joe it flags the lack of an SPF record. This is a debate right now among some, but I can tell you our messages stopped getting bounced once we added it. Also make sure you have an [email protected] email. Run the tools and get with your hosts...hopefully the email situations will improve.

Have you run the DNSSTUFF tool Mitch? You have no SPF record either among other yellow/red flags.
From what we saw we rarely got the message back even though almost no clients were getting the email. SPF records should be the first step, after that contacting Yahoo to make sure the domain hasn't been blacklisted...there is information out there that they are maintaining such a list, and third would be to try domain keys or something similar.
Supposedly without SPF records almost all AOL messages are now getting tossed too.

We have had problems with Yahoo emails for quite a few months ourselfs. About a month ago we implemented SPF and DKIM on our email servers and extended the delivery method to the yahoo mail servers.
SPF seems to be key but also you need to extend the amount of time your SMTP server attempts to send the email message before failing it with a bounce back. On our SMTP server we have it setup to try to send every 10 min and fail after 2 hours.
Yahoo mail servers are a very slow and with these changes we have had no issues since. |

OK, I ran DNS tool.
<edit>
At the request of my host, I've removed the info gathered as it is a bit of a security issue. If you need to follow-up on this in the future, let me know. |

My guess is once you get rid of the flags most of your email will go through.
I'd also consider editing out the open dns information as that's a serious issue that can be exploited by hackers. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

Your first two flags I think are quite normal and I don't think you can do too much about.
I added and SPF to my site and still all yahoo mail messages are bouncing back. |

Noah has addressed the issues raised with the DNS Tool inquiry.
Thanks. I'll let you know if I can get into Yahoo.... |

The open dns server is definitely not normal if that was one of the first two. Open DNS servers are discussed more here, but they are the equivalent of having an open smtp relay if not worse. http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/dns/recursion/Joe, you should contact yahoo and see if your IP is on the blacklist. Depending on whether you have a dedicated IP or a shared setup, it's possible the IP is flagged.

I think I've cured mine with adding the SPF -- it's not possible that our IP address has been flagged as it was just created as we moved to a new server only a week ago. At least I'm not getting yahoo emails bouncing back and tested a message to my own Yahoo email account and it went through. |

Well -- I'm still having trouble - I was emailing a customer the other day with a Yahoo account, went through fine, then all of a sudden they started bouncing back, no change made to mail servers or anything. I think Yahoo is messed up. |
