I have a client that locks down their network pretty tightly and they cannot upload images through the BVcommerce image upload. Can you tell me what they need to do to allow this?

Are you sure it's not the directory security on the image folder?

Yes I am sure. We are allowed to upload from any computer. They cant from inside their firewall. This is aport issue I believe.

The browser uses port 80 (or 443 if you are accessing the web page vis SSL) to post the file to the server.
Note that you are not saving the file to the directory...the identity that is running the web site is saving the file on your behalf. If you have IIS5, the username is typically ASPNET, otherwise it is typically NETWORK SERVICE. Make sure that user has permission to save files to the directory. |

One of the things I'm finding in 2003...if I have something to move from outside the site into the site, I copy/paste as that copies existing security permissions to the moved files, if I cut/paste or move, it does not.

This does not make sense. I can upload from my pc but within their network my client cannot. doesn't that prove the permissions are correct. (I can upload). Something in their network is preventing this from happening.

What exactly is happening at your client's site when they attempt to upload an image? Is an error thrown? Does it just not do anything? |

This is from my client - "I still cannot upload pictures. I tried for a file the seven_med.jpeg it would not accept the first time, and the second time it says it already exists. I cannot find it in the selection to choose it for the product." It appears that when she tries to upload it doesnt error but it doesnt send up the image. Then if she tries to upload it says it already exists. I do not see the image in the file structure after she uploads.

I had the same issue and it turned out that the client was uploading to the wrong directory. Actually my fault, I didn't have the default directory set for them when they clicked select image. I had it going to images rather than images/products. Port 80 would be open on their end by default. beyond that you might check if they have a personal package loaded.

Strange development - it seems that my client cant add items even to the store not just upload photos. Can they be blocking the post?

I walked my client step by step through the process of adding items and images. Everything worked. She swore that is how she has been doing it but something she was doing must have been causing the issue. It is working fine. Thanks for the patience you showed helping me work through this "issue".
