We'd like to use the quickbooks/innovative gateway but don't know of any positive experiences with it at this point. Is anyone using it?
What are the costs of some of the others such as authorize.net...are we looking at 50 a month?

I'm paying about $80/month for my authorize.net account -- it's based on the number of transactions -- I would guess mine are around 400 a month. |

authorize.net can be different depending where you get it from. We have 17.95/mo and .10/transaction |

BetterBuilt, do you mind sharing who you are using?
If I understand authorize net correctly we use them for the gateway and have a merchant bank on the back end?

Yes, you need a merchant provider. If you don't already have one then there is an Appendix B in the application that can be filled out and you will be matched with a merchant partner of Authorize.net's who will call you and explain their services and fees. |

I use the paypal payflow which has been working great (I moved from payjunction which was also great but didn't have a BV plugin). paypal is $30 / mo and payjunction is $22 for your reference. be wary of the merchant banks, I've been through a few of them.
1. don't sign a contract longer than 6 months (try to do no contract if possible)
2. keep in mind your mid and non qual rates. All of my transactions seem to hit that, and I am getting totally screwed from what I initially had signed up for.
3. make sure the processor doesn't double-dip by charging you a transaction fee on the purchase and the refund if someone returns something. My current processor refunds me my money on the original transaction if there is a return, so net I am out no cash, as opposed to the old system, where I paid the processor for the transaction ~3% and if there was a return I had to pay the non-qual rate to give the customer their money back ~3%. So on a large order like $1,000 you could be out as much as $70 just on transaction fees not including any shipping promotions you give. |

We chose PayPal Website Payments Pro this week (after going the manual route for two months) and the integration went very smoothly. Liked the no contract and no setup fees, plus all transactions (C.C. and PayPal Express) can be viewed from the same familiar interface. As Roberto said, the monthly and transaction fees are a little higher, but the ability to walk away at any time made this choice easier. Joe www.georgehowe.com

I am on payments pro 2.0 as well. the fees are actually lower for me from my other processors since they charge a flat-rate for processing instead of a tiered rate of qual / mid-qual / non-qual. my average rate on my old processor was 3.3% for all my transactions, now I am at 2.2% w paypal becuase they are fixed. The great thing with them too is that they have amex embedded in their rates so you get a deal on processing their cards as well. (it's usually 3.5%). The one thing that is a bit off for them is their per transaction fee @ $0.30 which is probably high if you sell low-value goods.
The installation was not easy for me on SP2, hopefully they fixed the problems in SP3 |
