I think this was covered previously as being a result of the postback placement but we can never recreate it. The error that appears is:

Code:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.[ at BVModules_ProductTemplates_BVC_2004_Layout_Product.AddToCartClicked(AddToCartClickedEventArgs args) at BVModules_Controls_AddToCartButton.btnAdd_Click(Object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton.OnClick(ImageClickEventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) at

What does this literally mean? Is it an error that triggers when someone clicks on the add to cart?

Can someone figure out how to replicate this error as we cannot duplicate it. To keep this simple so we know who's doing what if you don't mind running any tests in the logo hats subcat and the Nike Golf Swoosh Bill Cap or Nike Golf Sphere Dry Cap as the test items. This way we can keep from jumping out the window with people creating carts that don't end up converting :)

Thanks!

Well, I went to: http://www.promomanagers...olf-swoosh-bill-cap.aspx

and placed a few in the cart just fine - 'cept that I didn't choose a hat color. Shouldn't I have goten a 'field missing' msg?

I like the site. Your server is alarmingly slow at midnight. 3-6 seconds to register a feild choice and getting to the cart.

Checking the logs it's a little bit of a mystery. There were several other connections at the time that were speedy and a few bots to boot per the logs. Registering a choice change I would think is on the host end rather than the server as that information is already sent to the browser wtih the initial request. We weren't able to duplicate the issue this morning on that product, so it was either a transient connection problem or maybe an intermittent application issue that is the reason we cannot put a finger on the addtocart errors. If we're reading the IIS logs correctly for some reason your connection was really slow at that time to us. Google averages about 200, you were 6000.

We're exploring it further but the server is rocket fast normally.

Still able to place the hat in the cart... no color chosen. Fios fast today. Sure it's been created "needed"?

Mitch that's actually by design. Trial and error. We're trying to work through and see user patterns and whether or not anyone even pays attention to color selections. One of the errors BV has not yet fixed comes from a user not selecting a required box, getting the red flag "required field" and then selecting add to cart. It causes an eerror each time that dumps to a fatal error. Until it's fixed we're leaning away from having users be required to select items.

What's the last few words mean?

Thanks

Sorry, ...Sure it's been created "needed"?... choices can be created as 'needed' or not as in, they need to be chosen in order for the order to go forward. Seems to be true that sometimes you can offer a choice, but not make it a needed choice in order to fill an order. I've yet to see this though.

I would wonder how you know what color caps to ship if the color isn't selected.

Drives me nuts when I get a faxed PO from a reseller and only half of the info I need to build something is on the page. I sometimes get "Oh, you need to know what size?"

Mitch we actually haven't had anyone place an order without a color and either way everything requires verification as the items are customized so it would just be caught later anyway. In short it hasn't happened yet, but requiring other non essential fields has definately resulted in BV errors and lost orders, so we've decided to go this route.
