Disabling a Product Still Leaves it Visibale & Buyable!

The following product is Active=False (Status=0 in DB)... http://www.excelpictureframes.com/Picture_Frames/Wall-Frame/106-1100-DFGs-Driftwood-w--Gold.aspx I initially thought it was showing because the child product records were still Active=True (Status=1), but I've even de-activated the children directly in the database (this should probably get done whenever the Parent Product is de-activated or activated). Even though the product doesn't show when looking at any of its categories, the product still shows when linked to and you can even buy it, is there something I'm missing here? This site has a TON of pre-existing links to discontinued products and this might pose a real problem. I'll start messing with code, but I expect an easier fix that doesn't require code modification. -Aaron

Aaron, I would leave the product on the site, disabled and put a bunch of cross sells. I prefer people to come to my site, and get a "we don't have this product (out of stock) but we can offer you alternatives (cross sells)" than "404 - page not found, sorry mate". I never deactive or remove products, but I make sure when I can't supply them set them to Show as out of stock/do not allow orders and fill the list of cross sells with other products. Maybe I do get a sale out of that link after all :)
Regards, Corneliu. |

Aaron,
What service pack are you running? SP 5.3.2 is the latest.

We're running SP3 and all hotfixes through 12/17/2007 so hopefully the SP3.2 patch will solve everything. I'm also seeing a problem where even though the "Show CC Numbers in Admin Area" checkbox is checked (under Options | Payment | CC), we still cannot see the full CC # in the Admin Area and will need this for manual processing.
I'll update tomorrow on the status after applying the 3.2 updates.

The upgrade to SP3.2 has been made and both problems still exist. I can still see and purchase Inactive products and I cannot retrieve CC info, which is a MAJOR issue. I want to say that I'm doing something wrong as I cannot imagine how these bugs could exist at such a (relatively) late stage in the BV5 release, but I don't see what else I could be doing wrong.
I can upload screenshots if necessary, but they'll show you exactly what I explained.

Aaron, I clicked on your link and got this in the addy bar: (note the login) https://www.excelpicture...s-driftwood-w--gold.aspxAnd landed on your 'sign-in' page. Have you tried this on a fresh computer? Perhaps your getting through to the product because you're being recognized at sign-in (login). |

I'm prompted to login when trying to view that product too. Do you have a private store?

It's not a "private store" in the BV5 sense, but I did add an IF statement and REDIRECT to the product page to require an authenticated user to view the product page (because of pricing). You can log in with...
User: testuser Pass: testuser
Again, that product was set to Inactive thru the UI and I also tried setting all of its child products to inactive via a SQL update query. This problem is minor compared to not being able to retrieve CC info though as this client uses their existing terminals for CC transactions...
