I am noticing a lot of customer's complaining about our search tool. So I went around to some big name sites to see how different BV's tool is to theirs. The one I like is from BestBuy.com. It lists what cateogries your search keyword are in. For example, I typed in "Televisions" in this is what posted back: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=televisions&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960 On my site (BV SP3.1), I type in a major product like "Autoclave"* and this is what I get back: http://www.medsupplier.com/search.aspx?keyword=autoclave You can see because I list my manfacturer name first, the first actual autoclave is down towards the bottom, because the results are alphabetical. All the accessories show up first. It would be nice to do what bestbuy.com does, and break it down by category. That would clear up a lot of confusion with customers. They search for autoclave, scroll down a line or two and dont see any actual autoclaves. *BTW, the term "Autoclave" is our number one keyword that is being searched. Any ideas?

Ebay.com does the same thing as BestBuy.com, and I hear eBay is somewhat popular... Here is their search for "television": http://buy.ebay.com/televisionTom

Bryan, I found that if I search with an "equipment" category filter, I get only 2 results. It looks like you've got more available than this. Holy cow... your list of cats and subs is daunting!
I agree though, a search result page pre-segregated by category (at least the major categories) is a great way to do this. |
