I was thinking these days about adding HackerSafe to my site.
Then today I got a mail from www.vectra-corp.com informing me about the PCI changes and the "mandatory requirements to adopt, maintain and report the security measures used to protect credit card data" and how they can help me with this :)

Now, I'm not sure I need these guys to give me consulting for big $$$ and explain the PCI standards but still, I'd like to give it a try with teh HackerSafe or some other "security labeling website".

So I have few questions:

1. Anyone using HackerSafe and/or TrustGuard.

2. Why yes/no?

3. Why one or he other?

4. Did in increase conversion rates?

5. Should I do it? :)

Thanks,

Corneliu.

I was extremely skeptical of HackerSafe, but one of our clients wanted to try it. We implemented HackerSafe's A/B testing and saw a 13% increase in conversion. Crazy. It's no wonder you see sites like Brookstone putting it in their header.

I'm about as likely to put the word "Hacker" on my site as I am to put "I'm honest, really".

I don't pay attention to these badges on other's sites before I buy something. I really can't tell the real ones from the fakes (unless you click them), can you?

I pay attention to them for a couple of reasons:

1. I'm always interested -- and will pay more for the same or similar product -- from a vendor that spends the extra money and time to add protection to their site, along with using a dedicated SSL as opposed to a shared one.

2. I have done customer surveys and the badges matter to customers -- at least badges they can : A) verify; and B) they recognize.

I always click on the badges and if they don't work I will usually report it to the company whose badge it is.

Did I see a conversion increase when I added HackerSafe? I think that is too difficult to tell. Unless you make NO other changes to your site -- no different sales, prices, additions, site mods, etc. -- you won't be able to tell, I don't believe

We use hacker safe on our promo items site but it isn't advertised. I wanted to know the site was secure. It's a bandwidth hog at night and it does take the other bots awhile to adapt to the change but they do and eventually visit the site at other times.

Based on what was said here and others, I think we'll enable the banner this weekend and see if it leads to more conversions.

Short duration test w/without and it does make a difference but the question becomes whether or not it justifies the cost. For most it will not and the touted link benefits are almost gone with the big decrease from Google a week or three ago.

I knew of hacker safe before I ever got involved on the web and agree with Joe. There are no guarantees but I feel better about dealing with a site that has it versus not.
