The "Home Page" is built around three columns -- left, center, and right -- those you edit in the Admin - Content -- Home Page -- which is where you are apparently putting your HTML (in left column) -- if you want to put something in your store header, then you need to open your header.aspx file, which is located in the folder under your current theme that you have selected -- and edit it in an HTML editor.

Not a stupid question, just not easily tutored if you're used to a straight html page set-up.

As Joe said, the pages are set up into columns, in the case of the home page, 3. You will see the columns in the black bar at the top of the screen. The columns may be filled with content blocks and are named very well.

You'll have to trial and error a lot here - til 3am for a few days. I don't think anyone can show you how to do this on this forum, you'll have to just sit and do it. Once you 'get it', you'll see that it is drop-dead simple to modify the pages on the fly.

CSS is a big factor here. I used CSS to get rid of my home page 3rd column altogether - simple.

Category pages come with 2 columns and can be found in Admin > Content tab > Columns > System Category Page

Don't write any html until you understand the content blocks. Many content blocks will do what you want with very little to zero effort having already been pre-written for various functions.
Also, if you have spent some time building a column and need to save it for a later time, you can create a 'new column' and copy your work to it.

I did change the header.aspx and footer.aspx file to reflect our content. And I took the body and put it in the html category of the home page 2. It still shows up way below the header. All of the content is there but it is not directly below the header. Also, How do I customize column one so that the browse categories or whatever it's been named can be moved on the page. Right now it is on the top left and I want it go below the first image.

Thanks

I am attaching a print screen, I know what it is doing, column one is browse categories and it is pushing all of html down, the category pages are fine

Check the widths of the columns in the CSS. If you have 800px to work with, make sure you aren't trying to cram 820 px onto the page. Also, make sure your margins and graphics aren't shoving stuff around - and then down the page. A 600px wide graphic in a 599px wide content box will do this.

I changed the css and the browse categories from column one just come in with the rest of the content,

meaning they stay in the same spot . I canged the css from 1003 to 800, I am attaching a screen shot of the problem. All of the images are less than 600 width.

Your screen shots don't make much sense to me -- they are in a format that is almost unreadble -- at least to me.

Have a look at my response in other thread: http://forums.bvcommerce...2&g=55486#m55486

Also, I suggest getting some help on page layout. The learning curve on CSS is steep and our pages are very crowded. I've been at it for a year and I still don't get how a lot of it works.

Also, try to save screen shots a jpg's. You can compress them (without downsizing them) about 30% to make loading faster too.

It would be better to keep the same request in one thread instead of four, if you can. It's getting more difficult to determine what's needed. :)
