Hey all-
I have a new customer that wants a site that will allow a customer to upload .jpg files upon checkout to complete custom ordering. Has anyone already writting an add-on like this?
If not, I'm going to have to. Does anyone else have interest in this?
Thanks-
Jason

I have several BVC5 stores that need this too - urgently. Such an old thread...does anyone have an add-on? We need to accept JPG files only.
Thanks Linette

Linette, a client of mine accepts custom artwork for tradeshow displays. Artwork tends to be very large file sizes.
Rather than integrate it into the product page and checkout process, we added a clearly recognizable "Upload Artwork" page as well as instructions on what to do in each email that is sent to the customer.
The file uploads are all handled via YouSendIt.com
They've operated the site this way for about 2 years now and the only thing they've had me do is revamp the layout of the upload page for easier scannability of artwork requirements and instructions.
So it leads me to conclude that this type of setup is working well for them and suggest giving this a shot before you look under the hood.
However, if you're in the market that requires real time proofs of the product, I'd tap a programmer. |

Yes; there are several alternatives like that. We've used a few and they work OK, like you say. We want to try something that's a little more specific - similar to this: http://www.roommatespeelandstick.com/walldecals/custom-wall-decal.aspxI suspect this may be something from Develisys. Maybe Aaron will chime in with yea or nay. I appreciate the info and feedback, Matt. Always helps to know what works. Linette

I understand what you're looking for and that is Aaron's work.
The primary reason why my client sticks to the 3rd party FTP is the media files are always in the GB range. 10 Orders would put a dent in transfer.
The products ordered are in a totally different market (price range, options, customizations, etc.). Far too many to create a workable Choice/Option setup or a Kit type product. Most of the time the orders are placed by the customer while they're on the phone with a rep. The choices provided cover the basics and 99% of the time the end product looks nothing like the representative artwork used on the product page.
The main thing that I would investigate in any option is how much transfer you think you're going to gobble up on a monthly basis (assuming all files are uploaded to your server). It's of course always going to be an estimate, but it's good to be aware of the potential long term costs if in a hosting situation where transfer is capped and charged for overages. |

We're aware.
The best solution depends on lots of things: the business, the customer base, product/ROI, available options, marketing, transfer limits. The list goes on and on. What's perfect for one business may not work well for another.
Thanks,
Linette

Linette,
Yes, that’s us. The Flash-based image manipulator (rotating, scaling, markup, etc) part was created by a third party for our client. We then integrated it seamlessly with BV. Honestly, though, what they created isn’t great. What specific functionality do you need? If you don’t need the Flash-based image manipulation we can definitely help you out. |

Aaron,
We would need cropping at least.
Thanks,
Linette
